I Promised an Update

by Stephen D » Fri Jul 19, 2013 1:12 am

Here we are...

I've become the Instructor/Placement Director for the Kentucky School of Bartending. I'm really enjoying this new opportunity:

a) I get to be home to place my child to bed. I'm also a more rested parent at 5 AM. That's good- very good.

b) I get to teach and mentor the next generation of bar professionals. I'm at a point in my life where this makes me a happy person. 'Here's the baton, young lady- take off while I laugh at how cool you are.'

c) I get to find homes for bartenders. Believe-you-me, they get to have my stamp of approval before they get let upon the marketplace.

You'll also find me at Bistro 1860, barbacking on Saturday nights. I love that restaurant and everyone in it. I won't be able to reproduce any of my old work, though- that's Martin's baby and I am pleased to help them achieve their vision. Truthfully, I wouldn't throw my banner behind nobody but the best. I'll stay as long as they'll have need for my services.

Oh yeah! They have a tremendous culinary program- Chef Crouch is, once again, the best of the best (and a pleasure to work alongside.) That kitchen runs smooth as silk...

I'm happier than I have been in a long time. I make my living by doing nice things for good people, everyday. There's a lot to be said for that.

I love the idea of you instilling new bartenders with your knowledge and enthusiasm. Win win for everyone! Best of luck.

Sounds likes a great match for you, Stephen! So happy for you- and for Aiden. :D

Best wishes, buddy ... as others have said, a good man for a good job.

I wasn't very impressed with Bistro 1860. Maybe it needs a re-check?

I had a feeling that's what you are up to now. How does it feel being a day-walker? Not hard to get used to is it? Glad to see you are doing well. I'll be in touch soon about the Food Literacy Project Dinner. We might need one of your signature cocktails this year. :D

Please do. You know me, I'd be the happiest dishwasher in the world for this cause...
