From "worst" to "least worst." Funny, snarky, but mostly funny.

I think we all have our go to cheap beers. From my college days:

Top Three
Natty Light... the "water" of beers
Miller High Life... bubbly
and Bud Ice... beware the penguin. I'm a sucker for penguin marketing campaigns.

Bottom Three
Old Milwaukee's Best... The Beast
Miller High Life Light... blech
Red Dog... nice n cheap but man that stuff really tasted like dog

As an aside, I never understood the cult following for such beers as PBR or Yuengling.

Old Style always gave me a head ache, about two beers in.

For cheap swill Bud in a can. Not a bottle.
The old Falls City was good too

I haven't thought about Old Style in years. It was right there in the ranks of the $3.99-a-case beer like Old Milwaukee that was a staple of my Saturday nights. When I was attending the University of Illinois in the early '80s our go-to cheap beer was Leinenkugel at $2 for an 8-pack. They've done a good job of repositioning themselves as a craft beer.

I didn't know Stroh's was still in existence. They had some great commercials back in the day:

You wouldn't happen to have some Stroh's beer, would you?
No, but I have some nice cool water.
No thanks. I really had a taste for a Stroh's.

My fav was Weideman. 4.50 a case w/ your returnable bottles, in the case. The jingle was good too..... Weideman, Wei- de- man beer, satisfies a thirst, monumental and sincere. Old Style was good also. For the younger kids out there, this is before Coors crossed the Mississippi. 8)

I'm being very sincere when I say that Old Style is the JOINT. Tasty crap beer. Revisit it....they usually have 30 packs at Old Town

I think the only way you can buy old style in Louisville is 24pk suitcase cans.
A good beer is a beer that tastes good to you.

Attending college in the 80-84 range in Western Montana we had several cheap, crappy beers to choose from: Rainier (Vitamin R), Olympia (Oly) and Hamm's (Shi*water). Hamm's was, of course, the cheapest and we gallantly drank our fill. In our senior year people were bringing an outstanding beer back from Seattle called Ballard Bitter from the Redhook Brewery.

Jiminy Christmas, I almost forgot completely about Carling Black Label and Molson Export!

In high school we drank Colt 45 tall boys, extra kick you know. When we wanted a good lager we drank Sterling in the Big Mouth bottles. They also had a 16 oz. called Papa Bigmouth. I have come full circle now and really enjoy the new Fall City.

With the post title, i was sure Little King's would be on the list. :? I'm sure the brand died a while ago.

I used to work for a very elderly gent and Wisconsin native that swore by Milwaukee's Best. He would be quick to put anyone mentioning Old Milwaukee in their place.

Me too, but I don't think the new Falls City has a lot in common with the old Falls City. Well, maybe possibly back in our grandparents' day, but how are you going to check that out?

Ray- actually Little Kings are alive and well, and in fact, for sale in Louisville. I used to sell them for Heidelberg Distributing, and I'm pretty sure they're still with them.
