Louisville fails to make Top 10 Redneck Cities list ...

by Robin Garr » Mon May 13, 2013 12:13 pm

Louisville didn't even come close to making The 10 Most Redneck Cities in America list from www.movoto.com. Are we proud or sorry? I'm not sure. 8)

Here, listed from No. 1 to No. 10, is the final cut:

Atlanta, GA
Kansas City, MO
Oklahoma City, OK
Nashville, TN
Tulsa, OK
Fort Worth, TX
Arlington, TX
Sacramento, CA
Cleveland, OH
Mesa, AZ

I feel that the term 'redneck' is not pervasive in our cultural identity, so I'm glad we didn't make the list.

Sure, we might be Southern to an extent, but I think of it more a 'Garden and Gun' persona, not a 'git-er-done' kind of thing.

Then read the publication. It celebrates the gentility of the South. That sense of community, of a dedication to the land and family and a hard-day's work.

The Garden- self explanatory.

The Gun- more important. You eat what you kill and bow your head in reverence before the meal. To hold a gun is a great responsibility. That sense of land and family and hard work rises you to that responsibility.

Not redneck- not redneck at all.

I'd say Cleveland and Mesa are more white trash than redneck. Honestly this should just be a list of cities in Texas.

I like Zach's assessment of us most:

'But these days, notes Louisville-based writer and editor Zach Everson, the landlocked city's status as a UPS hub translates to just-off-the-boat ceviche — and a culinary-obsessed culture that "demands its food be fresh, local and killed gently'

Whether it's good or bad is irrelevant. The list is a sham. It includes Cleveland which is North of the Mason Dixon which makes it ineligible and it includes Sacramento which is on the Left Coast which also makes it ineligible.

Louisville if it has any rural character left at all is either ironic or mislabeled redneck when it is just more appropriately thought of as retro-southern (my term, feel free to use it).

Since Florida is not on the list it needs to be mocked.

As one who regularly visits flea markets, karaokes Garth Brooks, appreciates cheap beer, and considers camouflage a color acceptible in home decor, I speak from experience. Doubt me and I will post of pic of my Bass Pros Shops Gold Reward card. 8)

It was also a sponsor at the "Pimento Cheese festival" at Farmington recently which I happened to attend.Only because we got in free. As weird as it sounds, it was an expensive fundraiser.

Doesn't surprise me. I don't find Louisville redneck at all. It's tiny blue island in a bright red state.

Try as I might, I have failed to find a definition of the word "Redneck" that contains the word "Cities" or for that matter even the word "Urban"...I think perhaps this list was compiled by some Citidiot who fails grasp exactly what the term means.

Tiny blue island or not...when I moved here from Minnesota (via Oklahoma) I was told that I had too many teeth to qualify for a KY drivers license and I had to get two of them pulled before they would issue my license..

There may be neighborhoods in those cities that are redneck and certainly individuals who are but as a whole will cities are way too big to be redneck! Redneck is a culture that can't exist in a large city because of all the restrictions the city puts an lifestyles. True rednecks need to live in the country where they have plenty of room to store junk cars or cars up on blocks!

True. However Florida is a weird mix. The last time I was in Central Florida it was an odd hybrid (being nice here) of rednecks who were really into techno music. I am glad I left Florida when I did.
