Hilltop Tavern

by JustinHammond » Mon May 06, 2013 2:27 pm

After getting "Derbyed" at Silver Dollar on Sat., our group walked across the street to Hilltop Tavern and were quite impressed. The beer list, cocktails, and service were all great. They also have some very modern and interesting art for sell, as well as, a ping-pong table and numerous televisions. All and all a great experience.

However, we were all full from the Dollar and didn't get to try the food, which sounded/looked good.

My question, has anyone had the food and how was it?

I had the same experience, stumbled over after Silver Dollar closed. I was thoroughly impressed, nice people, friendly crowd, and good prices/selection on drinks. I had fried Oreos from their kitchen (which was still open at about 1:30am) and they were excellent, but obviously anything would have been at that point. I've been meaning to revisit. I tried to go one time, but it was a Monday and they were closed.

I had a pretty good sandwich from there (I can't remember which one, it was late and I may have had only one eye open...) but I do know they smoke their chicken wings before frying them. They're served whole. A buddy of mine claimed they are the best around. I love what they have done to the place. That location was such a dead zone for so long (until lou lou took over) and they have really made it work well for them. Try the wings.

I go there about once a month. Love the service, and I second the wings. They are great!

Finally! This is all great news. Now, please, can something stay in that spot for a while!

I've been there a few times for drinks, but last night was the first time I've ordered food. I got the special, which was a burger with bacon and beer cheese, served on a pretzel roll. It was magnificent. Definitely one of the best burgers I've had in a long, long time. The bartender told me it was going to be added to the menu permanently. BTW, the kitchen is open until 3AM on the weekends, not sure about during the week.
