In desperate need of a cat groomer!!!

by Carol C » Mon Apr 22, 2013 8:26 pm

Robin, please feel free to move this--I know it isn't at all appropriate for this venue but I am desperate and I know there are a lot of cat lovers on the Forum. We have an eighteen y/o Maine Coon mix who is terribly matted! She has been regularly groomed by Abra Cadabra for years--unfortunately they are no longer grooming kitties?!? We would really appreciate any recommendations that anyone can provide. She is older (and our baby!) so we don't want to trust her to just anybody! Thanks!

This may not be what you're looking for, but we've found that grooming them ourselves is a much better experience for the cats. They become much less stressed and stay more relaxed. It's really not that big of chore!

No worries, Carol! The rules aren't strict, and I hope you can find a solution. Sorry I don't have any specific advice ... similar to Mark's case, Mary grooms our cats. I don't think she's taking on clients, though. :mrgreen:

Hi Carol!
I'm considering a career change. I caught my neighbors cat and gave it a free grooming. Well, I asked for $25 but they wouldn't pay me for some reason. Here's a pic. What do you think?

Carole,

No personal experience but this sounds like it could be less stressful ( and they do cats);

Fairleigh Pet Center near Mid City Mall will do it.

We have a 10-month-old Siberian that started shedding recently. He quickly became matted and it was impossible for us to remove them. I took him in (for another issue) and the groomer shaved off the horrible mats and gave me some great grooming tool suggestions. Turns out we weren't using the right equipment.

That was just a quick fix, but she'll also fully groom your cat. I have no idea about pricing.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions for of our matted kitty! Mark and Robin, grooming her at home isn't an option--she's a sweetheart, but I'm a wimp and Bob is worse!!! To Deb and Tina, we decided to take her to PetSmart after talking to their cat groomer and it is close to our home. Will certainly keep your suggestions in mind if this doesn't work out. Shane, I think you have a real future in cat grooming! Actually, the "lion cut" is very stylish and probably is what Micro will end up with Thursday!!! Plus, your price is CHEAP :D :D :D

we use furminators on our dogs and cats. once you get the cat groomed you might try maintenance with one of these

We take our Himalayan cat here to be groomed: https://plus.google.com/115430284926737 ... l=us&hl=en (it's also where we get all vet work for our dogs and cats)

We take our dogs here to be groomed: www.thepetstationinc.com (I'm not sure if they do cats)
