The way I read the Courier-Journal story, Spinelli's is staying. There's a vacant storefront two doors down from Spinelli's, on St. Matthews Avenue, and I'd guess that's where Tom + Chee is going. But that's just my assumption.
http://www.courier-journal.com/article/ ... e-matthewsA Tom + Chee restaurant — specializing in deluxe grilled cheese sandwiches — is planned in St. Matthews.
The restaurant, part of a Cincinnati-based chain, would be in a building that houses Spinelli’s pizza restaurant and other businesses at Shelbyville Road and St. Matthews Avenue.
The St. Matthews City Council approved a parking waiver for the Tom + Chee restaurant at a recent meeting.
The waiver reduced the number of required parking spaces from 33 to 29 at the site, next to Trinity High School. The restaurant hours would be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
It would be the third Louisville Tom + Chee restaurant, whose name also refers to tomato soup. The others are at 1704 Bardstown Road in the Highlands and 319 W. Cardinal Blvd., near the University of Louisville.
Councilman Rick Tonini questioned the addition of another restaurant in a popular bar and restaurant area near the busy intersection at Shelbyville Road and Breckenridge Lane — an area that already has limited parking and has experienced an increase in late-night crime.
Tonini described the parking situation as “problematic from Gerstle’s to Trinity.”
