Drinks at 10 o'clock on Sunday?

Should the starting time for alcoholic sales were moved to 10 o'clock on Sundays?

Yes, it's a great idea with no downside.

Yes, but it should be at least 11 o'clock, after all churches start.

Drinks at 10 o'clock on Sunday?

That will happen if an ordinance presently before Metro Council gains approval! Here's a story from WLKY: http://www.wlky.com/news/local-news/louisville-news/Ordinance-would-allow-restaurants-to-sell-alcohol-earlier-on-Sundays/-/9718340/19731054/-/65uvdhz/-/index.html

I remember a little while back, one of our members here mentioned that during a discussion in Frankfurt with the ABC board, he was told that the restrictions for Sunday's or locally-based, not based on state laws. Good to see that Louisville Council is going to help the restaurants gain more business on Sundays. It should also help the tourist industry!

What's everybody think about the idea?

I think it's an excellent idea. Puts Louisville brunch back on parity with Indiana brunch (sorry, Roger), and there's no loss that I can see. Frankly, I have never understood how Sunday "blue laws" that appear to give preference to a particular religion can pass constitutional muster in any way, shape or form.

Richard M, Suzi, Alan C. and I had this very discussion over early brunch at Roger's establishment recently at about 11:00 on a Sunday morning, and the wrath of God did not come down and smite us mightily  (sorry, couldn't resist).

I think it's a great idea. I for one have never understood the 1:00 hour as the "holy hour of booze" on Sunday....it has always seemed a bit silly to me.

Those of us who imbibe by choice are of age (or in theory should be), so it's our call...is it not?

Here's the best article I've found over the constitutionality of "blue laws" and the patchy nature of court decisions on related cases over the years. Not much help here, except to suggest that a case based on the First Amendment along would run into plenty of precedent and argument on both sides.

Interesting article! Maybe not with laws relating to liquor consumption, but in many places blue laws, while still on the books are disregarded and not upheld. I wonder how many other things are governed by this type of law in Louisville/Kentucky?

Let people drink at any time. Isn't that what free/dumb is all about? :D

I'm pretty sure that, outside of liquor laws, the old Blue Laws have been pretty much cleaned from the statute books both in the city and statewide. Our legislature hasn't always been as wacky as it became in the David Williams years. ;)

I visualize Bloody Mary and Mimosa carts wheeling around dining rooms Sunday mornings in the very near future :D
ABC buddy of mine speaks of the odds of this happening to be pretty strong
