Frankfort restaurant recommendations

by Jesse Hendrix-Inman » Wed Apr 10, 2013 10:48 am

Some friends and I are doing a tour at the Woodford Reserve distillery this Saturday afternoon, and then doing the Buffalo Trace ghost tour later that evening. I'm looking for a place where our group could kill a few hours and get something to eat around 4:30-6:30 pm. Any ideas?

If you don't mind triangulating slightly, head over to Midway and hang out at Heirloom. I'd make a reservation though - it gets pretty crowded on weekends.

It's about 13 miles northeast from Woodford to Heirloom, and another 13 miles northwest from Heirloom to Buffalo Trace.

I'm not sure if Rick's White Light diner is open those hours, but it's quite a place to hang out, especially when Rick is on the premises. 8)

Thanks for the suggestions-looks like Rick's closes at 3 on Saturdays, but I will check out the other two!

Thai Smile is good food, but the Serafini bar, Capital Cellar bar, or Coffeetree Cafe are the best places to hang out.

That Coffeetree Cafe might be just the place. Thanks!

Coffee Tree is def a cozy place to relax. Cap Cellars is easy going too. if the weather's good then both places offer sidewalk tables.

Frankfort is home to the original Thai Smile. It is now only linked to the one in Richmond.

Midway was going to be my suggestion too. You have a number of options, incl Grey Goose.

Also in between Woodford and Frankfort, sort of, is Wallace Station. Def room to hang out there, picnic tables out back and so on. If you're getting there at 4:30 then you'll be able to secure seating before the dinner rush.

Yep, the Frankfort Thai Smile is the original (though there is no #1 on the signage, it's just Thai Smile).

Still my favorite Thai place in the state for most dishes.

Frankfort is a barren wasteland for restaurants, but Thai Smile is wonderful. Great food, friendly owners. It is in a hellhole of an old strip mall.

There is literally no other good restaurant in town. Rick's White Light is so overpriced it's a joke. $16.95 for a small piece of crawfish pie. Delicious, but outrageously priced. Sage has good sandwiches but they are tiny.

You can ride out to Midway and go to Wallace Station. Excellent sandwiches and the Big Brown Burger has been featured on Triple D.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions. We ended up at the Coffeetree Cafe and it was perfect. Great atmosphere, good sandwiches and a nice beer selection. I'll definitely be back the next time I am in Frankfort for a bourbon tour. There is also a fantastic park (Cove Spring) nearby and I can see Coffeetree Cafe takeout and hiking in my future.
