Queen of Sheeba newbie: Suggestions?

by Adrian Baldwin » Thu Apr 04, 2013 11:52 am

Finally convinced my wife to give it a try. Funny, b/c she LOVES Indian/Ethnic food, but apparently some episode of No Reservations/Bizarre Foods left her thinking it was just a bunch of raw meat. :?

Looking at the menu, it ALL sounds great to me. But, it also all sounds very similar: Meat/Veggie + Ehthiopian spices/chilis seems to be in every description.......which is fine.

Anything stand out/must try? Same for appetizers.

Leaning towards a combination platter for my first time, but was just curious what everyone's go-to there is?

Adrian, I think you've hit the nail on the head ... Ethiopan wots (stews) and tips (stir fries) do tend to follow similar patterns, and there's no better way than a combination plate to get a chance to sample a little of everything. (No raw meat, though ... )

Maybe get one meat wot, one Gomen sega wot (collards), one tips dish with meat, one lentil dish (kik wot or misir wot) and Timatim Fit-Fit, which is a salad-y dish ... all on one big injera for sharing. That will give you one example of meat, veggie and lentil stews, a tips dish and a salad, which pretty much covers the ground without any two being clones.

I second Robin's advice. It was what we did on our first visit and it was WONDERFUL!

The only thing on the menu that comes close to raw is the Kitfo, which is served raw is some places, but is served rare, medium or well at Queen of Sheba. it is one of my go-tos there, rare. Anything with lentils is good, it is the only place I will eat them. :D

I love the lentils there, too. There is a lamb with jalepeno dish that I like there.
