Give 'em up: Best places to watch the Final Four

by Robin Garr » Tue Apr 02, 2013 8:31 am

Where are the best places to watch U of L try to win it all this weekend? Sports bars, fancier eatery bars, or even home? Tell us the best fan bars and the best places to catch the games in convivial comfort.

I really like neighborhood bars. The Granville Inn, Shenanigans and Check's Cafe all offer good eatin' and cheap drinkin' in a comfortable atmosphere with lots of character and characters! I would recommend any of those three.

Champps isn't bad! They have around 20 tvs, each 42"+, and for that type of sports bar the appetizers are great . . . sandwiches aren't bad, but app's are an "A", sandwiches a "B", and main dishes a decent "C+". Plus, if you get a frequent buyer card in advance, your sandwich will be free (and you'll get a good value deal sent to you every week). I'm not a beer expert, but they appear a decent (but not outstanding) group, and they have great happy hour pricing on beer and app's.

They are where Fox and Hound used to be, sort of between Oxmoor and the Watterson behind the Ford dealer and Kohl's.

I'll give a nod to the new Di Orio's. I've always loved that space, former Jupiter Grill, Neos etc. I popped in recently for a brew and salad to go and was very impressed.

Gerstle's, has a great open patio area with TV's and a huge "pull down" screen inside. The food is basic bar fare, but done well!! The nachos and queasadilla were top notch. GO CARDS!!!

Walked into the Diamonds on Barret a couple of weekends ago and was shocked. I hadn't been there since it was Jillians. The giant room on the side is the biggest pool hall I've ever been in and if the towering pile of stick cases stacked on the table nearest the door is any measure, it attracts plenty of pretty serious players.

If anything, the bar area was even more surprising considering it's attached to a pool hall. I think it may have had more LCD inches per square foot than any place I've been in. It looked like a great place to watch a game!

Felt a little out of place among all that face fuzz and skin ink though so we didn't stay. I'd go back with some reinforcements though to give it a try.

Hotbytes pool tournament been scheduled?
I'm a bitter drinker....I just prefer it that way
