Now, it gets interesting.
Venerable institutions -- Hot Sauce Williams on the East Side and Around the Corner on the West Side -- have been knocked out of the competition in the first Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com Wings Playoffs.
The Greenhouse Tavern, a trendy Fourth Street eatery and feisty challenger, was edged out of contention by 11 votes, losing to Brennan's Colony.
In the East Zone, the Bedford Winking Lizard trumped national chain Quaker Steak & Lube, winning by more than 100 votes. But in the West zone, the Avon Winking Lizard lost by more than 100 votes to national chain Cleats Club Seat Grille.
The battle continues. Round 3 will determine the Final Four restaurants and bars that will move on to the taste-test round.
Between now and noon Wednesday, March 27, your votes will take us one step closer to finding one wing to rule them all.
We started with scores of wings joints (you can check the complete list), and winnowed them to an impressive 32. These restaurants and bars will receive decals identifying them as Lords of the Wings.
The four winners of Round 3 will be evaluated by a panel featuring judges chosen in a contest of local, self-proclaimed wings aficionados.
We'll ask each restaurant and bar to provide samples. The judges will taste each -- with the identities of the establishments masked -- and vote their way to an ultimate winner. We'll announce the champion in the Friday! magazine next week, April 5.
But first, it's your call. You can vote once per day, on each ballot.
