by Robin Garr » Wed Nov 21, 2007 12:08 pm

Velocity's Lisa Hornung soups it up this week with one-paragraph notes on specific soups at five local eateries - three indies and two chains:

The omission of the shrimp bisque from Uptown Cafe is glaring.

The potato cheese soup at McAllister's is a lot like warm wallpaper paste.

I don't know why, but I usually stay away from soups listed on a menu, but often find myself ordering soup du jour. I've had outstanding soups at Baxter Station and North End Cafe. Does anyone make a good beer cheese soup?

Soup

I love the Tomato Basil soup at Ermin's and the Cheddar Broccoli at Jason's Deli.

The potato cheese soup at McAllister's is a lot like warm wallpaper paste.

I have never cared for any soup from McAllisters.

Better yet, go to O'Shea's and have their potato soup which is loaded with green onion, cheese and bacon. And have it with a pint of craft brew... not mass market cr*p.

I have to give props to the roasted tomato soup at Toast. One of the best soups I've ever had.

All our soups at Cafe Lou Lou are "specials". Just so happens right now we're running Mark's amazing Crawfish Corn Chowder again.

Let me tell you, that soup will change your LIFE!

We all take turns making soups - we try to outdo each other.

Right now it's a draw between Mark's CCC and Jeffrey's Cream of Portabello from last week (imho).

My one contribution this fall (hey! I'm busy making pumpkin cake most of the time!) was Succotash Soup (Leeks, Corn, Lima Beans). Really good, but it didn't touch Mark's Triple-C (Crawfish Corn Chowder).

We had the Crawfish Corn Chowder at LouLou's for lunch today. It was fabulous-actually beyond that!!! Wish it were on the menu all the time but can't wait to try many others. Love the competition!!!

My favorite soup is the Tomato Basil at The Cafe on Brent Street (formerly located at the Louisville Antique Mall).

"Freshly thawed" soup out of a bag straight to your table...

You might as well stay home and open a can of Chunky Style Campbell's then you won't have to leave a tip!
