Lunch Ideas off Newburg Road

by Ron Taglieri » Fri Mar 15, 2013 8:08 pm

Have some time to kill tomorrow between Lacrosse matches during the early afternoon. Anyplace good to eat out off Newburg and Watterson area? Would prefer someplace different (i.e., not in the Highlands) so we can find something new.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

thanks

Run out to Ole Hickory Pit on Old Shep near the entrance to GE, which has really good barbecue with Western Kentucky roots in Paducah. Or go to Lee's in Watterson City (just off the Watterson in the office park just east of Newburg for excellent Korean. Mmm, I believe Chez Seneba West African/Senegalese is still where Long John Silver's used to be on Bishop Lane just west of the Watterson, too. Any of those sound good?

They all do

Which one sounds the best for my waistline is probably the more relevant question!

Near there: Oishi Sushi isn't far away, but I'm not sure about their weekend hours. Dakshin is also not far from there, right? As for real close, I think you're looking at Tumbleweed, Waffle House, and some little chinese place in the same strip center as Target. Or Emperor of China? Or Angio's in the Beuchel By-Pass? There is also a Middle Eastern place in the bypass, but I walked in and out one day when I was looking for something adventurous, yet they seemed over-priced and Americanized. Could be worth further investigation, it just wasn't what I was looking for that day. There's always El Caporal. They've been been serving American-friendly Mexican food for decades and I've always been pretty happy with them, as dirty and dark as it might look to some. Further down Hikes, there a place that was mentioned on the forum once (some kind of hispanic-rooted establishment), but it turned out to be a totally hi-jinxed place - very weird, and I wouldn't try it twice.

Upon further consideration, I think you should try the Middle Eastern Place in the Beuchel Bypass. For what it's worth, the people that worked there seemed very eager to serve me and the menu was definitely unique to what you usually get in a more Urban market (not that the Highlands is that urban, but hopefully you feel me :-)).
