Big Four Bridge and food potential

I visited the Big Four Bridge this afternoon at Waterfront Park (70 degrees and beautiful). The volume was massive, almost festive. It felt like a big city tourist attraction. The park was just saturated with people in every direction. I've always been impressed with the waterfront development, but I think the addition of the Big Four Bridge takes it up a notch that is on a different scale. Commerce in Jeffersonville will surely spike and those selling beverages and hot dogs along and about will be well rewarded. This is a real gamechanger beyond my expectations.

I second this. We'd be even more likely to go to the bridge if we knew food trucks were going to be there after our walk.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I have heard the the Waterfront Park folks do not want food trucks in the park. I hope that is not true, the addition of food trucks on the weekends would add a lot to the experience.

Might be a no-compete deal involving Tumbleweed?

Whatever the case had been vis-a-vis Tumbleweed it will have to change. Based on the volume today, which I expect will be fairly consistant during the nice days of Spring/Summer/Fall, there will have to be a slew of various vendors/restaurants/trucks to meet the needs of the crowds--on both sides of the pond.

June 14/15 at the Riverstage in Jeffersonville...Hopefully the Indiana approach to the bridge will be completed by then.

I don't know about the rest of Waterfront Park, but apparently they plan to have vendors by the Big Four Bridge:

The waterfront officials also said they intend to allow at least one concession vendor to set up a cart on the platform at the top of the ramp at the entrance to the bridge deck. They also are considering allowing vendors under the bridge, probably initially on weekends and on a daily basis through the summer, they said.

In the summer they have a hot dog vendor at the playground next to Tumbleweed. So I don't know about a no-compete unless its just for food trucks.

Well, I was just speculating, and thinking of some of the initial resistance to food trucks based on perceived competition.

I'm totally in favor of the Big Four park becoming a food truck center, though ... it seems to me like a win-win for everyone.

The "Sunny Side" is much more user friendly when it comes to letting food trucks operate. I could see a "pod" of sorts happening over there pretty frequently in the warm Summer months at the base of the ramp when it's finished.

Dan's comment raises a question: can food trucks from either side of the bridge sell on the other side? I'm guessing there could be permitting issues??

One has to get separate permits for each state. At least some of the existing trucks have both already.

IN only permits by county. KY permits statewide.
