La Rosita Closed

by Mark P » Fri Feb 22, 2013 7:15 pm

Planned on getting dinner at LR tonight, but when we got there the place was empty with a sign that said it was closed.

Walked across to River City Winery...great alternative!

Did the sign say anything else? Was it for a private function?

This would be sad if true.

Sidenote, get the crab cakes at River City! ...and the wine sampler is a great bargain for such amazing local wines.

Sad indeed...By empty I mean tables and chairs gone, nothing left other than some random garbage on the inside. Sign said something like thank you for your patronage.

True, closed. We will miss our neighbors to the south.

Didn't Israel just come back? Or maybe he came back to close it? :(

Damn. That abogado burrito was one of my favorite things ever. Weird lesson here about expansion I suppose. Damn. I hate it for the owners.

I'm sad for everybody involved with it. It can't be easy ending things the way it did, but its been tough sitting back watching this develop for the past year. They were one of the reasons we looked at the downtown New Albany area when we were looking to expand our operations. Israel seemed as upbeat as you could be when I talked with him Friday. Hopefully he'll move on to better things, and soon.

On a positive note, there is already some traction on something else moving into that space. I've got my fingers crossed that it will work out.

Israel didn't return to close it. The food had gotten great again.

This is a complicated subject, and I'm still in mourning, but this much is true: When it was "on," it was the best. Israel has a genuine culinary gift, and considerable charisma, but to be perfectly honest, the accumulated weight of questionable decisions was too much for him to dig out from beneath. Unfortunately, it happens. We move on.

I'm hoping the space is subdivided. Short of sticking a branch of the Hofbrauhaus in it, the building's just too damned big for one operation.

The place is ideal for having some sort of restaurant during the day and evening, then later at night have it transform into a country-western dance bar complete with a stage.

As long as it is executed well, something like that could probably do great business.
