Chinese sausage and Northern Chinese cuisine

by Adam Arnold » Thu Feb 21, 2013 6:59 pm

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knew of a place (restaurant preferred, but perhaps Asian grocery store) where I can partake in Chinese sausages (of any kind from Sichuan to Harbin).

Also I was wondering if anyone knows a place where one can obtain northern Chinese cuisine?

Thanks!

Viet Hoa has Chinese sausages and just about everything else you can think of.

As for Northern Chinese, I'm afraid we don't have that level of regional Chinese around town. The "authentic" Chinese menus at Jasmine, Peking City and Oriental House are good, but the chefs are from Sichuan in the first two cases and Hong Kong in the third. You may find specific dishes, but I'm not aware of any that specializes.

Thanks for the help, Robin. I had a feeling this would be the case, but was hoping that there would be a few dishes at some places to check out. I didn't realize the first two had "authentic" menus.... I've thoroughly exhausted the one at Oriental House which is amazing (I love my beef congee loaded with spicy pepper!). I'll have to check out the other two!

Adam, they definitely have authentic dishes, and initially they opened with separate menus in Chinese with English translations. I'm not sure, they may have merged the good stuff into the regular menus now, but the dishes are still there, and the chefs seem to be proud and happy when Westerners want them.

I just read the menu for Jasmine, and I can say with absolute certainty that will be my next adventure in Louisville Chinese cuisine. :)
