Looking for International Beer Shop

by Benton Thrasher » Wed Feb 20, 2013 12:39 pm

I'm looking for a nice shop that has a good variety of international beers and ales, in particular I am looking for Affligem, and even more pin-pointed I am seeking the commemorative Cuvee 950. But since moving back I have fallen out of my beer drinking ways, and haven't looked for a nice beer shop. So I was hoping that some of you folks would know of some. Thanks!

Sergio's World Beers is primarily a bar, but all of the bottled beers are available for carry-out as well.

And really, Liquor Barn has an excellent selection of beer as well, probably at the best price point.

Wow they have quite the selection, however I don't see Affligem anywhere on there sadly, though still very impressive. But have you seen bottles of Affligem at this shop?

I have not, but I've never looked for it. If they don't have it, I'd bet they could get it.

Also check out the Holy Grale for hard to find import beers, draft only, no take-out.

sergio's on story has been voted top five beer selection in the world more than once. last count over 1800 bottles. i'm sure I've seen affligem brews there. if something is rare, he will go out of his way to get it. The beer store and the holy grale are cool, but i stopped patronizing them due to their refusal to have any local beer. they seem tyo be quite set on nothing local.

While I'm dead set against a policy that excludes locals entirely I think that small shops have to be more miserly with their shelf and tap capacity. I love all the locals but when I want them, I wouldn't go looking at the Louisville beer Store or the Holy Grale for them.

Such places cater to customers looking for something out of the ordinary. They should consider offering special locals that are not readily available at multiple other locations nearby. These might include partnership brews, one-off brews, or perhaps cask beers.

The Charlestown Pizza Company offers special NABC beers that do not appear regularly at the NABC outlets.

Speaking of which I hear that Bank St has just put Pickman's APA on cask. Think refreshing citrusy ale but not over-the-top. On cask it should be even better.
I'm a bitter drinker....I just prefer it that way

Don't forget Valu-Market in the Highlands. They sometimes have beers that the Louisville Beer store does not have. Also you might try the Keg Liquor store in Clarksville. Sorry its not local, but they have a good selection as well.

The Keg Liquors website lists Affligem 950 Cuvee as being in stock at the Clarksville location -- you might want to give them a call before heading there, though.

Sergio's "master list" includes Affligem Blonde, Dubbel and Tripel, but not the 950.

If you try Liquor Barn, I recommend the Springhurst location -- it seems to have the widest selection of foreign beers among the local Liquor Barns.

Ive had local beer at the Grale.

Most local beer doesnt fit their style, but sometimes local things show up there.

Personally, I like supporting local, but I dont think every place has to support local all the time. To me, Holy Grale is about beers that you wont (or rarely) see on tap anywhere else.

Cross a river and I'm not local anymore?

We do have the Affligem 950 in stock at our Clarksville location, as well as around 300 other imported beers. Please do check us out.

I used to enjoy Affligem back in the 90's. Haven't had one in a long time.

I have been introduced to a lot of local beers at Holy Grale. You have to watch their social network sites to see what is on tap. They rotate often. The Country Boy Brews tap take over at the Grale was amazing!
