Dragon King's Daughter New Albany

DKD-NA opened this week for lunch and dinner. Stopped by for an after school snack on Friday and then went by for lunch today. The menu is a bit different from the Highlands location, but still very tasty. All the fried rice dishes sampled thus far were great, but I'm partial to the seafood fried rice due to the lovely thai chili fish sauce that comes with it. It's got some great complex flavors with a decidedly good chili kick. New sushi options on the menu as well as some favorites from DKD Highlands. I loved the Crunch Time - I joked to my lunch partner that if the Mad Max and the Indulgent rolls got together and had a baby it would be Crunch Time. It's got asparagus tempura and cream cheese inside and spicy crab and eel sauce outside. Some of the tapas were really great too. The big drawback of the lunch menu is that it omits all the tapas that are on the dinner menu. The red curry chicken wings are phenomenal - it has all the enjoyment of eating chicken wings plus the flavors of a red coconut curry. And the jalapenos rellenos definitely brought the heat. They had to be the largest jalapenos I'd ever seen, too. The order came with two of them each as big as an adult's hand. They were stuff with tofu and cheese, which really helped cut the heat as well as the sweet sauce it was served with. Ended both meals with black sesame ice cream. It really defies description - smokey and sweet and savory just don't do it justice. Hours are up on the website and they have liquor behind the bar too, unlike the Highlands location.

I always see people eating at Dragon King's Daughter and I don't get it? The food is just okay and the bar area in the highlands always looks dirty. It is cluttered with cleaning towels, and other things. I never just see guests sitting at the bar. It is odd. I get it, the food is cheap, but the ingredients do not seem that fresh. I have heard that the owners were once connected with former restaurant Maido and I thought Maido was terrible. P.S. The service at DKD is very slow. Sorry, but I don't get what people see in this place. :?

Hmm. Well, everyone it entitled to their opinion I suppose. I like DKD on Bardstown Road quite a bit, and it's one of my wife's favorites. Our food has always tasted fresh, and we've never had service issues.

Of course, we also like Maido. Why did you think it was "terrible?"

Had lunch at the NA location Sunday and it was very good. My sister and I split a lunch shrimp and veggie tempura and a chicken stir fry. The only issue we had was that the menu was not the same as online. We were excited to try some of the tacos and quesadillas, but they are not offered in NA for lunch or dinner. I found this odd. Our server stated that they were trying different things at this location, and he thought they may add the other items in the future.

Back to the positives...the amount of food is amazing considering you get soup, salad, edamame, and 3 fried dumplings in addition to the entree. Everything on the platter was superb. I definitely want to get over to the Louisville location to try the aforementioned items, but I will be back to the NA location in the very near future.
