No time for the usual snippet and photo this week, but here's a link to today's HotBytes/LEO review. Enjoy!

Great review, of an awesome restaurant!

Loved that you really gave a good overview of what makes Mayan unique culturally.

I haven't been there in many moons. My timeline is a little fuzzy, but back when it was originally Mayan Gypsy, it upscaled and moved to a building on Frankfort Ave, where diners could sign their names on a wall, then it disappeared when the owner went back home, only to return and reopen in the Butchertown spot as Mayan Cafe. What is in the Frankfort Ave. space now?

Me thinks you are confusing Kim's Asian Grill and MG. Kim's had the write on wall on Frankfort (next to Walgreen's), closed and moved to the location where Mayan Cafe is now. MG was in the 600 block of E. Market, where Harvest is now. MG closed at that location, disappeared for a minute then opened as MC in their existing location after Kim's closed.

Clear as mud I know.

Well, at least it wasn't next to the old Sears store....

Robin. Your reviews are Hemingway-esque. I read "Empanadas ($6) were a work of edible art, a pair of golden-fried crispy turnovers stuffed with a smooth, earthy puree of black beans and goat cheese, served with a carefully curated batch of leaf lettuces and a swash of Ucán’s dark bronze, tangy-sweet mulato-ginger sauce." and immediately begin to salivate. Can't wait to dine there next visit.
"I dined at my favorite restaurant last night. It was like Heaven, only better. They let me in".

Kind of you, Tim, but Hem used shorter sentences.

Yes, it was Kim's with the wall, thank you! So Kim's preceded Mayan Gypsy? I'm sorry for my addled memory. Those were also my Outlook days.
