Little Jerusalem

Sami Barghouti, has just opened his Little Jerusalem restaurant up in the Iroquois Manor shopping center across from ValuMarket. We went there last week and the shwarma was great, lots of our Beechmont neighbors have gone and all report good things. He's not doing any advertising, so we are giving him some word of mouth. If you are out this way, give him a try.

Does this mean that his Mirage restaurant on Preston has closed? Or will he be operating two restaurants now?

just asked Amy at Mirage, and as far as she knows, Sami will have both locations open

She said not all the equipment is in at the new Little Jerusalem, so not all of his regular items are available yet

I was there Monday, and had a great gyro platter for lunch. The rotisserie is not in yet so they are shaving off the meat and cooking it on the flat top. No noticeable decrease in quality. I talked to Sami and he said he actually sold his share of mirage to come and reopen Little Jerusalem. Again, we had a great meal, and glad to have another option close to the office!

He had started it on Taylor Blvd, just south of the Watterson and we frequented a few times before it closed. I'm glad to hear he's back at it again.

I happened to find myself on the south end of town at lunch time today, so I decided to give Little Jerusalem a try.

They had gyro on the menu, but I thought I'd try the Shawarma. It was great! I ordered chicken, mostly loaded. This included the chicken in their special sauce wrapped in a huge warm pita, surrounded by hummus, tahini, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers, hold the onion, with pepperoncini-style peppers on the side.

In a word: Mmmmmmmmmm.

The photo at the top of this thread doesn't show the true scale of this thing. It was definitely a meal in itself, though they offer optional sides. And the flavor was very complex. Just middle eastern goodness that was totally enjoyable. With sweet tea, tax, tip and destination fee my cash outlay came to $12, which is a deal for what you get.

Service at Little Jerusalem was fast and friendly. They were pretty empty, considering it was prime lunch time on a Saturday. Hopefully, word about this place will spread and they will have the success that fresh, good food and good service at a place like this deserves.

I think I will tell my bride that she needs to put this in the GPS Glide Path for this coming Monday when we are in South End.

So that is three places there... VK... Little Jerusalem.. Peppermint Lounge.

So who's up to meet at about 7ish this coming Monday?
