Cask is on at Bank St! WHAT?

by Shane Campbell » Fri Jan 11, 2013 5:17 pm

The beer line-up is really good at Bank Street right now. Well it's aways good but.... there are some special noteworthy options at the moment that I feel deserve to be....noted!

Bat Out of Helles (cask-conditioned)
I've drank barrels full of cask-condition ale over the years but when I noticed that BSB had a lager on cask, I thought WTF? Is that even a good idea? It's not. ITS A GREAT IDEA! This is my favorite beer in the area right now. Even my swill loving friends drank a bunch last Sunday and pronounced it Hellicious!

Yakima IPA (cask-conditioned)

This is a serious BITTER lover's beer and I've heard a few people refer to it as Yukima! This reaction is common unless one has his big boy/big girl pants on and is prepared for a beer named after America's hop valley. In fact, I don't recommend drinking this beer unless your not concerned about tasting anything else after. Of course as it's cask-condition right now it comes with an added bonus: Floaties! Who needs to eat anyway? This beer is food!

Dirty Squirrel

Anyone who has heard me talk about the beer at Against The Grain has likely heard me say two things. I've never had anything but good beer there and I often hate even ordering their beer because they give them such repulsive/juvenile names at times. The work around is to just order the “Hop” or the “Session” and that works.

On Sunday I nearly spit out my mouth full of helles when Jason asked our server to describe a “Dirty Squirrel?” The quips were coming faster than we could verbalize them. Especially with a mouth full of helles. I can't be sure that no actual squirrels (or other locally-sourced rodents) were harmed in the making of this brew but I can say it is very tasty and I encountered no tail-hairs in my glass (who's juvenile?).

If none of these take your fancy there are eleven other excellent beers made by David Pierce and his henchmen on offer. Cheers!
I'm a bitter drinker....I just prefer it that way

Thank you for the kind words Shane. In the motherland, Cask conditioned lager is called Keller (cellar) or Zwickel Bier. More here. It is not aged cold like most lager and has a very fresh flavor.

We recently made a significant investment in our Bank Street Brewhouse cask program. Look for more traditional and non-traditional casks on a daily basis.

(BTW, the Yakima cask blew yesterday circa noon)
