gift certificates for far East End co-workers-P.F. Changs?

by Ellen White » Fri Nov 16, 2007 10:12 am

We were going to get Louisville Originals gift certificates for the people who rent office space from us. However, after looking at the restaurants listed, I know that one of the guys probably wouldn't go to any of them, and another one of the guys lives near Springhurst (yes, I work with some "chain" people).
I know that one of these guys loves PF Changs, so I thought that for both of them, we could get PFC gift certificates instead for those two people (we will get LO gcs for the other people).
The question: Do most people who like chains and live in the East End like PF Changs?
As I said, I know one of the guys likes it, but I don't know about the other one (he's not very talkative).

I would not make special efforts for some, when doing things like this I feel it is best to make them all the same or none the same. It also may be a good opportunity for them to try something new and out of their comfort zone. Some people are more likely to try a new place when it's not coming out of their pocket.

I would second that emotion. Give them a gift that will challenge their pallette.

I'm an east ender, and I sometimes eat at chains. Stick with your original idea.

Consider Limestone if you want a fine east end experience. They offer GCs.

Another vote here for giving them your original idea of gift certificates to Louisville Originals. There is such a variety of restaurants in the group that I'm sure they'll be able to find a couple that sound interesting to them. Some of them even have menus that resemble some of the chain menus but their food is much better. Your clients since they are businessmen should also appreciate the fact that you (and indirectly they are) supporting other local businesses.

Of course the fact that you're also making them explore a little bit won't hurt anyone!

I think that you will find chain people all over the county....from Dixie Highway to Camberlain Lane. And do people go to them...well just go by the parking lots any night and see...full...on the weekend packed...You see if you go by what this forum says and the comments of the host on chains you would think that no one would ever go back to one...ever...but you see this forum while very interesting...does not speak for the majority of people in louisville....only a very few.....because if this forum and the hosts comments really had any clout...there would not be a chain place in town....and as you can see they are doing very very well....and continue to come....Get them certificates for places near them....P.F. Changs or the Cheesecake Factory just down the road....Get them what they really want not what others tell you that they want.... :D

Robert, I don't think any of us are saying what you are inferring. The issue is why do people go to chain restaurants? I believe in most cases that it has more to do with familiarity and fear of the unknown that it does the food. Unless you're a little adventureous you're going to go to some place that you know. How many times have you gone someplace with friends to a restaurant that you didn't know anything about and had a great meal? I venture to say many times. What if your friends hadn't taken you to that restaurant, you probably would've never gone and would've missed a great dining experience. What were all saying is since it's a gift so they won't be risking anything let them venture out a little and try something new! Let them take themselves to their comfort places and let our gifts have them discover new with ventures.

What my boss is doing at my second job is giving us a short list from which to pick a gift certificate--maybe this might work for you?

mark I respect your opinion...but I dont feel that it is the same for the majority of this forum and its hosts...Chains are always knocked down on this site with a very few exceptions....Just say you had a GOOG meal at a chain and hear the comments come pouring in...alll or 99 percent of them negative...
