Has anyone tried Bluegrass Barbeque, where Neighborhood Cafe used to be in St. Matthews? Or the other bbq place in St. Matthews on Bauer Avenue, across from Walgreens parking lot?

Ellen, it's a little hard to find since the title requires the reader to make a connection between the offbeat name and the place on Bauer, but we did have a recent discussion of ...

Momma's Mustard, Pickles and BBQ

Within that thread, along with an amusing discussion about ribs "falling off the bone" , look for a post by Steve P about "Bluegrass BBQ" for a quick rundown on the place on St. Matthews Ave.,

Bluegrass BBQ is one of my favorite new lunch spots. I went there 3 times in one week because of the deliciousness. The brisket is top notch. I think I could live off the potato salad. GO.

We went once and to be kind, I give them maybe six months. I found every bit of it bland. Not bad, Just bland. Nothing to distinguish it from any old Joes backyard barbeque who thinks it would be a grand idea to open a restaurant. Happens all the time. Aunt Sally makes good chili, so lets open a restaurant kind of business plan. I wish they would have researched other places in town before opening. But I've been wrong regarding the peoples taste many times before, so go by all means and give it a try. By the way, Happy New Years to all the members here and thank you for your support over the last eight years. Peace in the New Year

My mom and I ate at Bluegrass BBQ last night. We both really liked it! Though not as good as Smokehouse BBQ in Fern Creek, it definitely fills a void in the St. Matthews area! We both got the pulled pork platter with mac and cheese (real cheese!) and baked beans (tasty and barbecuey!). I had asked about their potato salad, and they gave me a sample, but they didn't have enough made for an order. It was creamy and tasted of dill, though the woman behind the counter said it was actually green onion. The pork was tender and juicy, and my favorite sauce was the sweet mustard (though all 4 varieties were delicious!) The portions were just right, though for just a couple dollars more, I would have had leftovers at Smokehouse.

We did notice that they closed fairly early, at 7.
