Went by Clearwater foods today and it looks like they have closed shop. Is there another place to buy hard shell live lobsters?

Oh no!! :(

Madeline, I don't remember where you are in town, but they have them live in a tank at the Mejier at Gene Snyder & Westport Road. I would also assume one of the local fish shops would also have them.

Kroger and Meijers won't have the same thing. Those are chicken lobster and not the beautiful hard shell lobsters that are only available to the restaurant trade. I am in mourning. :( :( :( Hey, I am in the restaurant business! However, I can't think of any distributor that handles that kind of lobster.

I know that http://www.bluefinseafood.com/products.html carries them. Have you checked with Highland seafood in Middletown?

Don't know, but have you checked with Seafood Connection in Chenoweth Square? They are very good at getting special requests.

I just called Clearwater and happy to report they are very much open! The retail operation is,and to my knowledge always has been, only open on weekdays. We are lucky to have this place here in Louisville. If you like lobster and you haven't been, you need to check it out...on a weekday.

This is indeed good news. I started to post and recommend a couple of online places I've used in the past but no need to do that now.

I drove by there but could not find it. The address points to a blue building that has an attached warehouse. What I read on the sign is some kind of Allied business. Is the building hidden from the street? Do you know if they will be open on Christmas Eve?

I am glad there are places for live lobsters here in town. For Christmas if you have not found any, The Fresh Market on Shelbyville Rd had 7 left when I left this evening at 5 PM.

They are live cold water lobsters. 1.5 LBS +/- and are $14.95 lb.

They are open tomorrow from 8AM till 6PM. If you go by and tell Jenni who manages Seafood you saw this post she will fix you up as she really wants to sell them.

Hope this helps those looking,

I get their emails and they are planning to be open tomorrow and have specials to boot! It's probably a good idea to call ahead.

Here's the email I got from them:

Culls - $5.49
(Lobsters that are missing a claw.)

Don't forget to bring your cooler or buy one from us for $6.50!

*Prices are good while supplies last!*

If you are going east on Produce Rd from Poplar Level Rd. Clearwater will be about 1/2 mile down on the right in the middle of a rather large industial building. They have a smallish blue, red and white logo sign over the door. If you make it to the stop light at Bishop Ln where the produce terminal is, you've gone too far.

Doesn't Clearwater distribute most of the lobsters caught on the east coast? I was about to freak out when I saw they were closed. Glad to hear otherwise!
