What about returning food to the kitchen?

by Ellen P » Mon Dec 17, 2012 9:30 pm

Reading the Mellow Mushroom review, with the same wings returned, heated up how?
I guess it depends on what is wrong.
I hate to see my food be taken away then returned - not knowing what it was subjected to.

Recently, we made our first visit to Gordon Biersch. We were downtown for 2 basketball games so we thought we'd check out 4th Street and the Brewery. As our pizza was placed at our table, the manager quickly came over and said that the pizza wasn't exceptable. They left that one - rather over cooked and skimpy - and fixed another one. Mike picked at the toppings as he waited for the replacement. Very nicely done. Had a local beer - Apocalypse, I think, then did a sampling of their beers - I really like places that do samplings. Really nice place. Very nice service. Enjoyed the food. Will return some time - too many choices.

Am I being paranoid about what happens to my food as it returns to the kitchen? I don't like their taking my food to be placed in a to go box away from view either. I'd rather do that myself.

Thanks and happy holidays, Ellen

Ellen, my instinct is that if we trust them to make our food in the first place, then it's reasonable to trust them to box it or even to replace an unsatisfactory dish. Now, a person who acts like a jerk about the return might earn retribution, but really I don't think that's very likely. And I can't imagine that you guys did that. :)

I prefer to have the server take away my food and box it up for me, away from the table. I guess I'm just a princess that way. I've boxed up many a leftover for customers and it never occurred to me to do anything shady with the food. There's just too much else going on to think about tampering with someone's leftovers.
