This is unfortunate news: Maido has closed, reportedly after its chef/owner died:

Coincidentally, or not, I noticed that the Houston Group was advertising the building and business for sale the other day. I didn't pick up on it because they had been trying to sell the business previously. I was under the impression that Toki still owned the building, though, and was trying to sell it while keeping the business open under a contractor.

I forgot to post about this- I walked past the other evening and it was dark- so sad, it was my go to place for years.

Speaking of Toki, she may be otherwise occupied, seeing as the buildout for the New Albany branch of Dragon King's Daughter remains under way.

The demise of Maido is as sad a closing as any I can remember. It was a go-to place for us, too, and we always brought visitors there. Sad story, sad closing. But we look forward to welcoming DKD to NA, and life goes on, I guess.

Just ate at a sushi place this past week and told my dining partner that this place "reminds me of Maido," which is very high praise. I had my first sushi experience at Maido, so it will always be special to me.

I like DKD (last meal I had last time I was in town), but, for various reasons I liked Maido more.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.
