Wine Tasting this Thursday at the Wine Market

by Ken B » Tue Dec 04, 2012 11:03 pm

It's the first Thursday of the month, so here's what we'll be opening:

Champagne and Sparkling Wines
Thursday December 6, 2012
The Wine Market
1200 Bardstown Rd

Secco Italian Bubbles Bianco 2011 $13.99
This is the second time we’ve featured this winning value because we can’t get enough of it. Clean, fresh and elegant with (as we said before…) a lively, charming personality. Late summer melons, bright citrus and warm apples bounce off beeswax and some light, toasty bread notes. The killer nose is followed by a sultry mouthfeel and layered, complex finish.

Secco Italian Bubbles Rose’ 2011 $13.99
Every bit as beautiful as it’s sister, the Bianco, and a bit more exuberant. Ripe strawberries and maraschino jump out of the glass, but the palate is fine, dry and crisp, with endearing minerality. Another multidimensional crowd pleaser, with style and finesse for days.

Mas Fi Cava Brut $11.99
Possibly the best bargain in sparkling wine in the city. Lees aging gives both wonderful freshly out of the oven bread notes and creamy mouthfeel to an otherwise crisp, fruity wine, loaded with green apple goodness.

Two absolutely insane deals on grower-producer Champagnes. You will not find this quality of Champagne at this price anywhere but the Wine Market or Old Town Wine & Spirits (not even online!), available at this remarkable price for a limited time only!

Pascal Doquet Blanc de Blancs Brut NV $25.99
90 pts, The Wine Advocate “A rich wine with an expansive, perfumed core of apricots, flowers, honey, brioche, sweet spices and smoke. The wine shows a good deal of complexity in a style that achieves terrific balance between ripeness and minerality. This is a great choice for drinking now and over the next few years.” – Antonio Galloni

Lamiable Brut Grand Cru NV $29.99
92 pts, The Wine Advocate “The NV Brut Grand Cru is an impressive wine endowed with notable depth in its pure fruit. Sweet citrus, white peach, smoke and mineral nuances are woven together in an intricate fabric. Taut and focused throughout, the Brut Grand Cru delivers immense pleasure in a focused, energetic style, with the weight of the Pinot only truly being felt in the richness of the finish. The Brut Grand Cru is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. The wine shows enough freshness to lead me to believe it will drink well for at least another few years, and quite likely longer. This is a great effort from Lamiable.” – Antonio Galloni

Also wanted to mention that we are the only place in Louisville where you can find "orange" wine (either at retail or in a restaurant, to the best of my knowledge - if anyone can point out otherwise, please let me know!), if you have read anything about this style of wine which has generated some press in the last year or so. Basically orange wines are the diametrical opposite of rose' wines. Rose' wines are made with grapes meant for red wine, but given very little skin contact so little color is extracted, and giving a different aroma/flavor profile than red wines made from the same grapes. Orange wines are made from grapes intended for white wine, but given extended skin contact, extracting considerably more color, and also giving a different aroma/flavor profile. The orange wines I've had are incredibly complex, but don't make particularly good cocktail or "sipping" wines, they show best when paired with a meal.
