Wimpys Burgers

This is not in Louisville - yet, but you should wish it was.

I dined at the Conway, AR location Sunday and it's the best burger I have had in 40 years, the span between when I worked for the original Ollie's Trolley and now. In fact, even with the passage of time and the typical embellishment our memory systems provide (remember the time I caught that 30 pound Bass back in '74?) this burger is no doubt better.

Fresh meat, never frozen and grilled simultaneously on both sides in a double griddle just like O.T.'s on a fresh, buttered, warmed split sourdough bun with a choice of 4 cheeses and any garnish you could want made to order. Each patty is 1/3 pound of juicy goodness. This is not your lean heart-healthy beef cooked until it's dry and tasteless. It's the good stuff. Regular or sweet-potato fries, crispy with praline-cinnamon sauce. Yeah. Too many other goodies to mention.

There are 3 locations. The other locations are the home store in Southhaven, MS just across the border from Memphis and opening soon in Jonesboro, AR in the northeast corner of the state.

Full menu is online. I rate it a 95 in Robin-speak for burger utopia. This is a single sample size at the moment. Has anyone else dined at one of them?

When I saw this post I thought it can't be the same Wimpys that was in my home town Stroud, Glos, in the late 70's, but it is. I never set foot in there, but they were busy. No idea if they had chains elsewhere as I don't eat burgers so was not really interested. I googled it and yes they originated in the UK. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wimpy_(restaurant)

Wimpy was a famous character. Not surprising someone started a

"Wimpy" in the UK is owned by South African company Famous Brands. The small U.S. start-up is "Wimpy's Burgers and Fries" and is based in Southhaven, MS. Neither website references the other and they have very different menus.

I'll bet Famous Brands has trademarked everything under the sun related to the Wimpy Character and may have something to say about the Southhaven company's choice of name. I didn't see any trademark references on the US site. They may have to change their name.

It sounded like they must be different from the UK Wimpys as they are nothing to write home about. Last time I was in the UK, the burgers were just OK, though they also had fish & chips as well as multiple Indian food options. Definitely not the primo burgers Tim describes!

Maybe not if the original Wimpys didn't trademark the name in the U.S.
