Hey Robin can we start a thread to post who will be open Christmas Eve? Gary and I are usually on our own that night and are looking for some place special to eat. Thanks! :D

The Twig & Leaf. BTW: Whatever happened to the original neon "Twig & Leaf" sign?

I think you just did, Karen! After Thanksgiving, I'll stick it to the top and add "And Christmas Day."

For now, the short answer is that many Asian places stay open for the holidays - Vietnam Kitchen is a big destination - and some of the hotel dining rooms stay open to serve holiday travelers.

Complicating the issue this year is that Christmas Eve falls on a Monday night, when a lot of restaurants are normally closed, and I don't see many of them deciding to OPEN because it's the holiday.

But let's see what responses come back ...

The Irish Rover takes last orders at 7:30 pm on Christmas Eve. We are closed on Christmas Day. Irish Rover, Too in La Grange will be closed both days this year.

(never mind -- I've edited to reflect the fact that our plan to be open changed; see below)

Retraction: We couldn't find enough employees willing to work on Xmas Eve, and we've no intention of forcing them to do so; therefore, the NABC Pizzeria & Public House will NOT be open on the Eve. Thanks, and sorry for the confusion.

Roger,

In this day and age of retailers demanding their employees work the actual holidays (witness Walmart, etc opening ON Thanksgiving) I can't express enough admiration for your decision to allow your employees a bit of "quality time" with their family and friends. Bravo. (I think I shall celebrate your decision with a brace of 22 oz. NABC brews this evening... )

I appreciate that. It was a voluntary sign-up sheet all along; the last couple of years, there was enough, and this year there wasn't. It's their choice. It means the original location will be closed for three days (Sun, Mon & Tue) and Bank Street just two (Mon-Tue).

Last time I was in Bamberg, Germany for Christmas (2009), we found the majority of businesses closed for two, three, and even more days on both Christmas and New Years Eve/Day. Even the Asian restaurants punted. We stocked up, cooked at the apartment, and had a number of peaceful, snowy walks. It wasn't a big deal at all, really ...

Anyway, thanks. Have a good holiday season.

What's become one of our Christmas Eve traditions is to go to Molly's/Baxter Ave around 6:00pm for dinner & drinks with the owners & staff. The menu is somewhat limited (I recall), but the bar's certainly not! We're usually out of there by about 9:00pm, but I think there's usually a pretty fair "we-don't-have-anything-else-to-do-on-Christmas-Eve, either" crowd that come in to imbibe and watch for Santa!
