It's Pimento Cheese Awareness Month!

Memphis Flyer, their version of LEO, is out today with a good article about Pimento Cheese.

I don't know why it needs an Awareness Month. Isn't everybody already aware of it?

I love the stuff myself, and now I'm wondering what restaurants around town make an awesome pimento cheese sandwich (or other dish involving this delicious confection).

I know Paul's markets sell an excellent spicy version in their deli. And I seem to recall an awesome PC Grits at Wild Eggs, although that could have been a Grits of the Day rather than a regular menu thing.

Other nominations?

Have to include the PBLT at Joe Davola's. What a great sandwich.

The Bell House in Shelbyville makes a really good grilled pimento cheese and you can get bacon or green apple slices put on it. Yum! I'd never had pimento cheese until I moved to Louisville, but I do love it! (and Benedictine too!)

For at least the first half of my life, I only heard it called "pimenna" cheese. Pimento? Oh, OK. It was odd to see it spelled out after hearing it pronounced in the Kentucky fashion all that time.

I love the pimento cheese sandwich at The Cafe. They call it The Victorian. Divine.

That's certainly the best one we've found!

The Shady Lane Cafe has a very popular Grilled Pimento Cheese, tomato and bacon sandwich. Don't fret about the line, service moves quickly. Eight years and counting! We are way out in the east end, maybe three or four minutes from the Old Sears Building. Fill up the tank and come on out.

Actually, technically, you are "inside the Watterson," albeit only by 100 yards or so.

I'll put my pimento cheese up against anyone's. I made gallons of the stuff for the Pimento Cheese Social at Farmington during Derby week last year. How about a bound-salad Throwdown?

I'd eat that!

(And actually, I made pimento cheese for 200 at a St. Matthew's Episcopal event last summer. It got raves, too. )
