A "New" Place for Breakfast

by Robin F. » Sun Nov 11, 2012 4:11 pm

On a recommendation from my Mom of all people :), we went to Austin's today for breakfast. They recently started serving breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 8:00. We got there shortly after 8:00 and they were a little slow to get started (the coffee cups were just coming out of the dishwasher), but it was worth the bumps.

We both had the Chicken & Waffles, and let me tell you, it was the best rendition of this dish I've had. Fluffy waffle, pecan syrup and 3 (or was that 4) healthy-sized (but not healthy) chicken tenders perfectly seasoned and fried. I ate like a pig.

They have a full menu, name your own omelets, pancakes, waffles, an Italian biscuits and gravy, benies, and other things I can't remember. Oh yeah, they had a fruit plate with yogurt, but come on!

The prices were very reasonable with the C&W one of the most expensive at $9.95.

We passed up Wild Eggs and Ghyslain (our usual haunts) on our way and it was well worth it!

Honoring Carla's request for locational data, Austin's, 4950 U.S. 42, is 3.4 miles generally NNE from the Old Sears Building.

It's between Holiday Manor and Lime Kiln Lane.

We used to go to this place all the time with family members. Good to know they serve breakfast. I can't think of anyplace else in the immediate area that does. Thanks Robin!

Immediate area, no (unless you really have a craving for an egg mcmuffin), but Shady Lane is just across the Watterson, and Wild Eggs maybe two miles or so South.

Austin is always reliable; it'll win few awards for outstanding dishes, probably never get it's fourth star, but the sister to KT's offers a broad menu (from pasta to vegetarian to sandwiches to steaks), the food is well prepared (a medium-rare burger or steak is always medium-rare!) and tasty, and you leave with a surprising amount of money still in your wallet!
