More Free Wine! We'll be doing another free tasting this Thursday, November 15th, as a preview of wines we suggest you may like for Thanksgiving and other upcoming holidays. As usual, the tasting will be from 4:30-6:30, 1200 Bardstown Rd, and we'll get some tasting notes posted here shortly...

Holiday Wine Tasting
Thursday November 15th
The Wine Market, 1200 Bardstown Road

Au Bon Climat Pinot Gris/Pinot Blanc 2009, California $17.99
You get the best of both worlds in this white from one of our all time favorite West Coast vintners. Crispness and lively fruit from the Pinot gris, creaminess, roundness and minerality from the Pinot Blanc. Green pears, yellow delicious apples, citrus peel and exotic notes like just a hint of ginger on the finish. Pure, nuanced class from start to finish.

Evolucio Furmint 2011, Tokaj, Hungary $9.99
We like this wine so much we had to revisit it again for this tasting. All kinds of fantastic fruit dominates the nose: generous honeydew melon, exotic ripe pears (Seckel & Forelle), white peaches, Turkish apricots, even a hint of spice...it's all in there! The palate is balanced behind all that fruit, with some mineral backbone and reasonable acidity to offset the touch of residual sugar (not even enough to qualify as off dry though) that gives it a round, pleasant mouthfeel. A super flexible food wine that pairs well with all kinds of dishes – light to rich.

Louis Chavy Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire 2010, Burgundy, France $10.99
You'll be hard pressed to find a French wine this inviting and crowd-pleasing at this price, or even much higher. Clean red fruits, a touch of earth, and palate cleansing acidity work together to give you pure pleasure that we challenge you to find in any Pinot Noir at this price. The perfect red to accompany your turkey dinner, or any dinner any night of the week!

Resso Tinto Garnacha/Tempranillo Blend 2010, Catalunya, Spain $8.99
Another terrific value, with great depth and complexity at a price even us normal folk can enjoy! Ripe strawberry and dark raspberry fruit notes saddle up to bracing minerality and some nice spice: licorice and black pepper, just the right rusticity to complement your turkey, but enough fruit to cut throguh all the rich side dishes. And you can bet this will taste just as good with those hot turkey sandwiches on Friday and Saturday night too!

Poggio Vignoso Chianti Classico 2010, Tuscany, Italy $14.99
Umm...Italian wine at Thanksgiving? You bet! Everything that makes Pinot Noir a classic red wine for your turkey dinner works here too in this modern styled Tuscan beauty. Pure red fruits (cherries and cranberries), typical notes like mushrooms and woodsy undergrowth and some nice herbal accents all sound like flavors and aromas that work well with Thanksgiving dishes, both traditional and new wave. And pretty darn tasty for sitting around watching football too, if you ask us.

Revelry Riesling 2011, Columbia Valley, Washington $14.99
Off dry and refreshing, with minerality, acidity, fresh fruit and sweetness all perfectly in balance. Honey and peaches on the nose, green apples and grapefruit pith cutting through on the palate, this wine hits all the right notes for those who like something a touch sweeter (without being cloying at all) on their Thanksgiving table, but put together so well it won't turn off folks who normally shy away from sweet wines.

Our Thursday tastings are timed terribly. I rarely work them. It is currently beyond my control to alter that (we have limited hours for our tasting license).
