Louisville Root Cellar

A friend of mine lives near this establishment and has been raving about their fresh and delicious produce and inexpensive prices. Thought local foodies might be ineterested in checking them out.

True but the advantage is that they're open a lot more so it fits your schedule easier.

I dunno, I find Ron's prices to be pretty competitive. Some things are actually cheaper through him. And he has the best prices I've found on Weisenberger Mills products I've found at a bricks & mortar store. And he gets stuff off the farmers they're afraid to bring to the market since no one bothers with them at the markets ... like Jerusalem artichokes and pea shoots. And stuff other folks don't even stock, like the JD country milk butter. You can get that milk anywhere, but their butter?

I am a big fan of the Root Cellar and I stop at at least one if not two farmer's markets every week.

I completely agree with Ken on this. I frequently go to many of the farmer's markets around town and would without a doubt say that the Root Cellar's prices are extremely comparable if not cheaper than most of the prices at the markets. (Meats might be the one exception) Once again the added bonus of regular brick and mortar business hours adds to the appeal, as well as a new 2nd larger location in Germantown. They also have a rewards program now for frequent customers.

Ken is a smart man. If I ever find myself disagreeing with him, I'll usually revisit my opinion...;)

I've been amazed at what I can get for the price at The Root Cellar. The owner is so super nice and helpful, and I love his recommendations. He facilitated the creation of a crazy-good white bean, kale, white sweet potato and ham hock soup last week - the latter three ingredients purchased at the shop. I love the new location at Kentucky and Swan Streets.

I didn't realize they had moved. That's closer! Is it a one-time storefront? Must check it out ...
