Orange You Glad Jeffersonville?
There's a new restaurant in Jeffersonville that I think has great potential. Orange Clover Kitchen and More at 590 Missouri Ave near Kyes has been operating since the middle of October. It is a breakfast, lunch, coffee shop owned and operated by Rachel Smallwood. I haven't been yet but I know Rachel's cooking, especially her soups and sandwiches which I've had for lunch many times at the NA Exchange where she worked previously. I've seen rave reviews already from the Jeffersonville forum.

On the Beer Front
I had a couple of fall offerings yesterday that I thought were quite nice. I had Brooklyn Brewery's Octoberfest at lunch then for dinner I had Six Point's Autumnation. Both were quite nice but very different. The Six Point hit right in my sweet spot. It's a hop monster without being obnoxious about it. The hops did overpower any seasonal aspect in my opinion. The Brooklyn was much lighter, slightly malty, and went perfectly with a chicken sandwich on pretzel bread. It was also the more sessionable of the two at only 5.5% abv. Speaking of session beer – ta da! RogerB has already begun to do just that. This really gets me excited. http://potablecurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2 ... nabcs.html
The Manhattan Experience
I was told that NAX, bartender extraordinaire, Casey was the winner of the Woodford Reserve Manhattan Experience preliminary round held in Louisville recently. Casey will take his winning formula up to Indianapolis this weekend to compete in a National Semi-final round. I was given a tiny sample of the winner and I can say it was definitely tasty. Casey said that he focused on quality of ingredients including house-made bitters and his own vermouth/something else concoction to create a drink both true to the original but remarkably different as well. Good luck Casey! https://apps.facebook.com/manhattan_exp ... ts&fref=ts
Gourmet to Go
The Fireside has branched out a bit and now offers Gourmet to Go. A small dining area at the front of the restaurant was converted into a dedicated take-out space with two large lighted cold cases. Available now to take away on a walk-in basis are some of the Fireside's most popular dishes as well as many new offerings. This project was conceived by chef Marshall Jewel and took a big commitment from owners Neal and Patty Smith to realize. I was there for the ribbon cutting yesterday and it was an exciting event. The food in the cases yesterday looked amazing. Check it out on their FB page below then go take some home.
