Jade Garden Dim Sum - YUM!

by Melissa Richards-Person » Tue Nov 06, 2012 11:57 am

Sorry for the unfortunate rhyming in the subject line ;-)

DH and I were making our way back from an out of town trip last Sunday, and I had a craving for salt and pepper shrimp (a very specific craving, I will grant you). The last time I'd had it was at the Forum Offline at the sorely-missed Red Pepper on Brownsboro Rd; and I'd never seen it since. A frantic google search via smartphone netted a hit on Jade Garden at Westport Village. In 10 years in Louisville, we'd never been, but now I had a Salt & Pepper Shrimp reason and I would not be denied! (well, hubby wisely agreed, anyway).

We were seated, given menus, and then I had the foodie equivalent of attention-deficit disorder as the dim sum cart swiftly moved by me (talk about being distracted by a bright & shiny object...). Realizing that DH and I were two of a minority of caucasian faces in the restaurant, I decided that at least a little sampling from the dim sum cart was in order....

No, this doesn't turn into an "I ordered so much I ended up having to wash dishes to pay my bill" story, but I did order enough to say - Jeez - how did I not know this was HERE?! Wonderful, comforting shrimp in rice noodles, mahogany glazed chicken feet, shark fin dumpling.... MMMMMMM..... AND, yes, I got my Salt & Pepper shrimp.

All in all, I have to say - I'm hooked! And, since I'd managed to miss this place after living here so long, I figured I needed to post in case others were in the same boat as I. I'm going back again next Sunday!

I couldn't find this restaurant but I did find one called "Jade Palace" in Westport Village that serves Dim Sum - I'm always on the lookout for Dim Sum - and think this might be the one you mean since there is a Jade Garden restaurant but it is not in Westport Village. I did find a website with a menu for Jade Palace

Jim, welcome to the forum! You are right, of course, Jade Palace it is.

But Jade Garden just sounds so right that nobody noticed!

Here's my last full review ...

And another, with a slightly more specific focus on one unusual dish ...

So glad you enjoyed your experience - it's one of my favorites. You can eat like a king for very little money!

Jenny, I think they'll make dim sum off the menu at any time:

I'm not so sure about the carts. I know they're Saturday and Sunday from opening at 11:30 a.m. until midafternoon, and for a while they were rolling them on Fridays, I think. But it's best to call and make sure:

The door, and waittress, said they do Dim Sum all day, every day.
We went Saturday afternoon for something different for Rick's bday. It was an interesting experience. We had some things we liked very much and a couple that we didn't care for.
We had 10 plates of food (smalls), dessert, and hot teas. The bill was still under $40!
