Dinner & Movie Nights- November/ December

by Madi D » Wed Oct 31, 2012 12:08 pm

Hey everyone! With Robin's permission, I would like to share some information about our upcoming Dinner & Movie nights. We are very excited to have set dates for both November and December.

This series has become a favorite among our guests because of the unique atmosphere and food. The different films allow Chef Lamas to really stretches his culinary legs and create menus that tie in with the story and characters. The features are shown in our private dining room which is transformed to feel like a modern dinner theater with dim lighting, intimate tables, candlelight and unobtrusive service.

The movie is shown on our 8-foot screen while you enjoy a seamless, multi-course feast with drink pairings. It’s an interactive dining experience that really helps the story come alive. Menus are inspired by the movies, sometimes literally pulling dishes from the story so that you can taste along with the characters. Seating is extremely limited for these special nights, so you are encouraged to make your reservations early.

Here are the dates:
November 14th- Like Water for Chocolate
December 19th- A Christmas Story

Showtime is 6:30 p.m. and the price is $125 per person (plus tax and gratuity). To buy tickets call (502)473-8560 or email madi@sevicherestaurant.com

About the Movies:
November 14th
Like Water for Chocolate- Based on the best-selling novel by Laura Esquival, this internationally popular romantic fable from Mexico centers on a young woman who discovers that her cooking has magical effects. The tale's heroine, Tita, is the youngest of three daughters in a traditional Mexican family. Bound by tradition to remain unmarried while caring for her aging mother, Tita nevertheless falls in love with a handsome young man named Pedro. Pedro returns her affection, but he cannot overcome her family's disapproval, and he instead marries Tita's elder sister. The love struck young woman is brutally disappointed, and her sadness has such force that it infects her cooking: all who eat it her feel her heartbreak with the same intensity. This newly discovered power continues to manifest itself after the wedding, as Tita and Pedro, overcome by their denied love, embark on a secret affair. Director Alfonso Arau presents the acts of love and cooking with the same glossy, sensual sheen. Indeed, despite occasional digressions into a magical realist tone, the film often takes on the gloss of Hollywood romance. This combination of traditional melodrama and exotic fairy tale proved extremely popular with audiences, particularly in the United States, where it became one of the highest grossing foreign language films at the time.

December 19th
A Christmas Story- Ralphie, a young boy growing up in Indiana in the '40's, dreams of owning a Red Rider BB gun. He sets out to convince the world this is the perfect gift. But along the way, he runs into opposition from his parents, his teacher, and even good 'ol Santa Claus himself.

I will post the menus as they become available.

Thanks and Happy Halloween!

I love reading about the creative process- keep us posted!

What I've heard about this series is that it's truly something to behold. Alas, this boy is always at work...

Madi-
Sounds fantastic! But couldn't resist one question:

Will dog-devoured turkey carcass be featured in the " A Christmas Story" dinner??

It's not what's served but how you eat it.

"Show mommy how the piggies eat."
