Thanksgiving Options: Post all Thanksgiving events here!

by Tracey E » Thu Oct 25, 2012 1:49 pm

Hi All,

I have been reading this board for years but have never actually posted.

I don't have any family in Louisville, so it will just be my husband and I for Thanksgiving. Any suggestions for a meal?

He's not the biggest turkey-eater, so a buffet with some other kind of meat (especially ham) would probably be the best for him.

Cheers,

Tracey

I assume Robin will be pining another thread for this year once the holiday gets closer.

Good point! As soon as the news releases start coming in. The Seelbach and the Brown are two obvious places ...

Personally, I prefer the Seelbach when not celebrating a holiday at home!

Thanks! Both the Brown and the Seelbach have their menus posted, though the Seelbach's reads a little strangely to me.

Has anyone ever gone to Churchill Downs for Thanksgiving? I have heard good things but no specifics about the menu.

Cheers,

Tracey

Welcome!
I've done Churchill several times for Thanksgiving, from Turf club on down to first turn,,, If you can get tickets on the 4th, 5th, or 6th floor they have a decent buffet, you have a place to sit all day, and the weather won't matter.. It has always been the least stressful place to spend a holiday, and I always met great people, and had fun.. I'd go there over most any where else for Thanksgiving.. :D

The Brown's is a very nice way to spend thanksgiving, we've done it for the past few years. The appetizers and desserts are served buffet style while the main courses are presented tableside. The entrees can be seen on the menu and are all excellent. The Seelbach is basically there Sunday brunch transplanted to the holiday. Again a wonderful meal but everything is buffet style and the menu is a little less traditional. Churchill downs has a very traditional menu no matter where you're eating. Most of the area's is not all of buffet style menus and are served to about 3:00. While the menu is traditional the setting, unless you are from Louisville, is far from traditional.

The best place for Thanksgiving (especially a buffet) is Captain's Quarters. Wow. Alan and his crew out there do an amazing job. The spread is beyond compare (the mac n' cheese is to die for, die.) and the service is second to none. And don't get me started on the dessert table.

Since we have the baby, Aimee wants to cook for Thanksgiving this year. I love my wife and her cooking, but I am lobbying hard for CQ instead...

More so for Christmas afternoon than Thanksgiving, but certainly on both days, Vietnam Kitchen is a traditional destination for those who'd really do something completely different.

I know the OP is looking for dinner options for two, but if anyone has 4 or more and would like to serve dinner at home, please avail yourself of Simplify Thanksgiving from the team at Sullivan University. Winston's Restaurant, The Bakery, and Juleps Catering are joining forces to bring you the best possible Thanksgiving at home without the work! $130 feeds four, and there are lots of options for sides. The meal can be picked up on Wednesday, and comes with storage and reheating instructions.

Naturally, I highly recommend ;)

I did this last year and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Let me cook it for you. The Kelly Lehman Personal Chef Service is cooking the full meal, Turkey, Gravy, Sides even the possibility of Dessert all delivered to your door the day before Thanksgiving. All you have to do is heat it up, put it in your best china and be a hero.

Everything you need to order can be found on my website: http://www.chefkellylehman.com. Give it a look and order early as there is a strong possibility I may sell out.

Thanks,
Kelly Lehman

If you're cooking at home, check out this Rainbow Blossom event this Saturday, featuring tasty samples from a wide range of ‘styles’ – traditional, gluten-free, vegetarian, Paleo – something for almost everyone!

https://www.facebook.com/events/303045303143224

"You’ll also be able to take advantage of special one-day sales, ‘talk turkey’ with our resident turkey guru, chat with folks from the Louisville Vegetarian Initiative, and enter to win one of three Thanksgiving-themed gift baskets.

"What sort of samples will be on hand? Sweet potato casserole and cornbread stuffing, pies – from vegetarian-friendly fruit pies to traditional pecan & pumpkin – cookies, puddings, gluten-free stuffing, pumpkin rolls and dinner rolls, and more!

"You can also show your support for Kentucky Harvest and those less fortunate. Donate two canned goods and we’ll also donate 5% of your purchase to this worthy cause."

i've spent a couple of turkey days at two different bristol lacations. it was solid and reasonably priced.
nothing mind-blowing but a nice escape from dysfunctional traditional family values.
