heard that Queenie's has closed ?

by Willie Myers » Thu Oct 18, 2012 6:45 pm

sorry to hear thru the 'vine that Queenie's @ Hikes Point has closed down :( :( they had some absolutely delicious soul food and, while I always thought that H.P. was a bit of an odd location for a soul food restaurant, I had always hoped that they would succeed. guess not :( :(

Sorry to see them go. Been a few times. Good place.

However, I am sure one of the main problems was being hidden in the back part of that shopping center.

Their location couldn't have helped. I ate there the week before they closed and the food was as good as always. I was headed back the next weekend and they were gone :(

Add to the list of restaurants we sorely need:

A great "meat and three"
Diner
And now, soul food.

Agreed. Not to put down the wonderful creative things people are doing with food in this city, but seriously, why the dearth of the above categories?

I would sell my left kidney to get one or all of these out here in the wastelands of Fern Creek. About the closest I can come is Smokehouse BBQ which does some pretty bang up side dishes. I don't count Cracker Barrel. I eat there, but I don't consider it truly country cooking.

With a good location (i.e. visibility from the highway), someone could do good business in any of these three categories. Unfortunately I've also seen these disappearing from rural communities. We're raising too many kids who are fearful to venture beyond chains.

Another soul food restaurant is supposed to be going in the location that housed Queenies. Different owners. Projected to open in January.

Hope it works out.

I suggest you all try Franco's out on Dixie. Very good soul food.
