Spicy Food Club - Suggestions needed

by Ron Taglieri » Tue Nov 13, 2007 11:50 pm

At work, we are forming a spicy food club for those who want to get some lunch beyond the usual fare.

Need some help on suggestions that meet following criteria:

- Obviously spicy
- No restriction on ethnicity of food type
- East End (not being elitist, just needs to be place one can drive to, order, eat and get back on lunch hour
- Lunch hours
- Reasonably inexpensive ($10 or so per individual)

Any good suggestions?

thanks

Seviche on Goose Creek will be open for lunch starting Dec 3. I'm not sure what the price will be but I imagine it would be close.

Adding to what others have said, and keeping it in the East End as requested:

* El Tarasco in St. Matthews (across from Trinity High School). The Shrimp Diabolo will singe your eyebrows.

* La Perla del Pacifico on the south end of Goose Creek Road, just south of Westport Road. Excellent, authentic Mexican fish restaurant.

* As noted, Seviche A Latin Bistro is now open on Goose Creek. I don't think of it as primarily a hot-and-spicy destination, but you can certainly find something on the menu to warm you up.

* Sala Thai in Stony Brook. (Or, if you're willing to extend "East End" in to Clifton, Thai Taste on Lower Brownsboro near "Dirty" Kroger.

* In that same neighborhood, A Taste of Jamaica.

* India Palace or Shalimar, both Indian spots near Hurstbourne with lunch buffets available. Plenty of curry or vindaloo options to warm you up.

I imagine you can find something spicy at Yang-Kee Noodle, or at least drown it in Siracha.

D'oh! My bad, I should never post when I first get up and haven't had coffee. I'll edit. Thanks!

And Simply Thai, in St. Matthews down from Karem's and across from Bazo's, though they seem to take longer than other restaurants.

Joe's OK Bayou in Plainview Shopping Center is good for Cajun as well (although J. Gumbo's at least ties with it IMHO).

Lemongrass Restaurant (drops the Cafe in Middletown for some reason) has some spicy dishes. 11606 Shelbyville Rd in the old Long John Silvers, next door to the old Ehrlers and right down the road from the old Sears. All is right with the world!

Sari Sari on Frankfort. Many of the dishes are spicy and they have a homemade hot sauce that is very spicy.

While it can be rather spicy, I'm not sure I'd go quite that far. At least not to a group of people talking about forming a Spicy Food Club, heheh. :)
