Saffron's Buffet

by JasonW » Tue Nov 13, 2007 4:49 pm

I went to Saffron's Buffet and didn't know it had changed hands and concept. The buffet is now down home cooking and very good. Everyday they have several different meats varying from baked and fried chicken, baked and fried fish, meatloaf, salisbury steak, honey baked ham, or turkey. They also have several different sides, a full salad bar, and desserts. The great part is the price is only 7.00 or 8.00 with a beverage.
You all should check this place out.

That just doesn't seem right for a place named Saffron's ....

Signage...

In case you had not noticed, the sign above Saffron's Buffet facing north says Manoosh's... I'm certain the signage will change.

Manoosh's was the place before Saffron. I wonder if Manoosh is opening again or if they are 2 signs behind?

Jason,

Glad you posted this. Now that I'm working downtown daily, I've been meaning to find & go check out their buffet- I love Saffron. But...Country cooking was not what I wanted or would expect. Thanks for the warning.

5th/Chestnut. Next door to where Saffron's Buffet was... I'm usually about 11.30-12.30.

Saffrons

by James Natsis » Wed Nov 14, 2007 12:47 pm

I'm sorry to put a damper on your enthousiasm for Saffron's new country buffet menu, Jason, but I agree with a few others who already commented that a place named "Saffrons" should be more exotic. Your description of the buffet excites me about as much as a Golden Coral or Ryans. These places are not bad per se, just not exciting! Anytime an ethnic restaurant gives way to a standard American fare joint (whatever that may mean??), or in some cases, a Walgreens, it is no cause for celebration, but rather a step backwards as far as I am concerned.

I understand that the new buffet at Saffron's is scratch-made soul food, which at least qualifies as more "ethnic" than Golden Corral.

I don't really have any dispute with your broader argument, though.

Say what you want, but I just ate lunch and it is awesome. I plan to make this a frequent lunch stop.

I love "ethnic" food and seek it out more often than not. But a good down-home buffet? That ain't a step down. Nothing wrong with that.

Ok, Ok, I concede. If the food is truly homemade and done right it has definate value. Now if they could just change the name . . .
