I enjoyed lunch at Corbett's with my best friends in the world- Gayle D, Tom Fischer and my mother.
At $23 for a three course meal, it was certainly better than a day spa.
We began with the Calamari- lightly touched with a gremolata. This is where the 'student of the game' comes out in me. The gremolata was given in such a proportion that the flavor was imparted to the breading, without making it soggy. I'm going to use that technique- thanks guys!

The Vichysoisse was hands-down my favorite dish of the day. I often joke that the Irish have extra genomes that predispose us to potatoes, leeks and corned beef. This was the best representation of the dish I have ever seen. The bacon lardon garnish was not that- it was a chiffonade of crispy smoked goodness. Oh! And some truffles were definitely harmed in the making of that dish...
I'll order a Hot Brown just because the thing makes me happy- and that thing made me happy. They went with a thicker cut on the turkey, which was kind of fun. Truthfull- you would look at a dining companion from out-of-town and say 'that's the dish.'
We all went for the Chocolate/1792 bourbon ice cream. Seriously, I am looking for some type of a chink in the armour, just so everyone knows this isn't a fluff piece. This is all I have:
'There were some striations in the ice cream that told of it getting too cold too fast, or the effect of the proof of the whisky on the chilling process.'
Are you kidding me? It was incredibly good. Smooth, flavorfull (to the point where you got the sharpness of good chocolate.) Indeed, the striations helped improve the visual aspect of the dish.
A table visit from Troy made for a fun whisky geek conversation. The service, stellar. The atmosphere, sublime. I kept getting asked why I was so happy- for two days later.
'I got a case of the Corbett's.'
Here I am, a month later, recalling this wonderful meal- I do believe you carry these things with you.
If you haven't been, you should. And the price of admission is SO worth it.
