eater.com looking for a Louisville editor

by TP Lowe » Tue Sep 25, 2012 7:43 am

From their website:

"Eater is thrilled to report plans to launch versions of our obsessive restaurant and nightlife blog in Louisville, San Diego, the Twin Cities, Nashville, and Kansas City in the very near future. There's only one problem: we need to find passionate restaurant enthusiasts in those cities who can take on the task of running the sites.

Are you obsessed with restaurants, chefs, news, gossip, and all the fun drama that goes along with it? Do you have a taste for breaking news? Do you need a freelance job that allows you to work from anywhere with an internet connection in those key target cities? If so drop an email to jobs@eater.com with a brief description about yourself and a paragraph or two about why you're interested in the job. If you've got a blog and/or a Twitter account, please include a link to them as well. If we like what we see, we'll be in touch quickly."

Hmm. Another Walmart on the "local" dining scene?

It will be interesting to see if they can make it seem local enough to work. It surely will have a lot more advertising (non-local) than we're used to. I see little competition here for louisvillehotbytes.com!

I spent about an hour on their website whilst enjoying a slow lunch in front of the 'puter...and I've gotta say it didn't resonate with me -at all-. About half of the articles I perused turned out to be links to articles from other publications. The "writing" (and I use the word loosely) that I was able to determine had originated locally (via some unknown to me editor/blogger) was downright half-assed...They claim to have some pretty upscale demographics but I'm just not seeing it. They also seem to be hitting the social media aspect pretty hard...most of (all ?) the content is linked to Facebook/Twitter/etc) but with only 7500-some "likes" in the Chicago market, it's got "FAIL" written all over it.
