Large Event Room?

by SheilaB » Fri Sep 21, 2012 11:30 pm

Hi all

I'm looking for a restaurant that might be able to accommodate anywhere from 75-100 people for a rehearsal dinner on a Friday night in December or January. Any thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks!

There aren't many places that can accommodate such a number. A banquet hall or country club would be your best bet. Although... some restaurants might give you the entire main dining room and seat their other reservations and walk-ins in their too small for your needs private dining rooms.

The Olmstead works nicely for a group that size. www.theolmsted.com

(but I think you would be wedded to Masterson's catering if you go there)

Clifton Center? Mellwood? Just guessing here ... I haven't actually rented any of these spaces.

Two very nice place often overlooked:

1) Rivue on top of the Galt House has a spectacular room you can rent (ballroom sized) It's pricey, but worth a look. Food is pretty good...probably much better than you would get in a typical ball room.

2) Muhammad Ali Center - very nice. City view...catered by Bristol I believe.

I also think you can rent the large bar that overlooks 64 at the KFC Yum Center. Not sure if you have to use Centerplate.

You would have to use Centerplate - they're the exclusive caterer there.

The Olmstead is nice and they do use Masterson's. We have been to several events there and the food and service have been good. The Clifton Center has some nice rooms, and at least for the events I have been to there, you can bring your own. Local places like American Legion and VFW halls are worth a look. Some of the suburban fire houses rent out their meeting rooms and some are quite large. Most of the traditional venues are probably already booked for a Friday in December. Good luck!!

I'm eager to see how they can squeeze 150 seats into that former gas station/Red Lounge. Loverly place to be sure, and I admire what they've done with it. But seating for 150? How?

I would suggest the Clifton Center with North End catering. I will assume from experience that you will decorate your own space and have these folks set up a buffet line. Bottom line this will stretch your dollar and still provide good food.

Robin,

Don't know the exact numbers, but they had an expansion late Spring early Summer this year where they added a private dining area and reconfigured their secondary dining area.

They have a very flexible restaurant space right now that can be configured for an intimate private dining area and we've seen the main dining area set up exclusively for wine dinners or a private dinner in pretty large numbers.

It's probably our favorite place and if the numbers work for the poster we'd highly recommend it.

I think the Bristol on Bardstown Rd might be able to accommodate that many people in the upstairs party rooms with large windows that overlook Bardstown Rd (don't hold me to it, though, I can't remember what the seating capacity is). They run a pretty large catering operation all around town and are very professional - I have plenty enough experience with them to say so. They also have exclusive catering rights to the Peterson Dumesnil House, which is a beautiful estate and located in Crescent Hill - the same property that the "Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration" resides on. If I ever get married and have to knock a few people off the invite list to squeeze into their quarters, I'm doing it.
