Twig & Leaf

by Ron H » Wed Sep 12, 2012 12:41 pm

I'm not a regular eater there, though I have definitely put my fair share of cash into the till over the last few years. It's been awhile since I went in, but one day a few weeks ago I drove past on my way to Funmi's when I saw that the beautiful neon Twig & Leaf sign had been replaced by some cheap plastic piece of garbage. What happened to that wonderful sign? Is it gone for good or are they refurbishing it?

If it is gone for good, I wonder how much it would take to get them to sell it to me, because I want it for my eventual house.

I certainly hope it's not gone. The history of the building was one of the big argument points for saving it last year. Is the owner is not going to see fit to get rid of various original items I'm wearing a site was truly the correct decision.

Along the same line I know that restoring an old neon sign is possible because Selena's restored the old "Willow Lake Tavern" in front of their facility.

Well, yesterday I went by and the sign was back and looking better than ever. I guess they had taken it down to repaint and refresh it and I freaked out over nothing.

Yay! Thanks very much, Ron, for coming back with Page Two.

Glad to hear the sign is back. Now when are they going to make something in that place edible or interesting? One of the more frustrating restaurants I can think of... a great diner concept begging to be born sits in the void of nothingness that is the current Twig and Leaf.

They did replace the "cheap plastic piece of garbage" (and thankfully, temporary) sign yesterday morning with a new sign. The replacement sign is not, however, the original, iconic neon version, but it is much improved over the temporary one.

I'd like to get my hands on the original, too, and I might just walk up there and find out what happened to it. We need to get Branden Klayko from Broken Sidewalk on the case.

Agreed, if anyone would know, it'd be him. I only drove by the sign and saw it looked like the neon one I remembered, but it was daylight so I couldn't say for sure. At least it looks better than a hanging piece of white foamcore.

Totally agree! If only we had the money to buy it...
