The 35th annual Hunger Walk is Sunday
Over 2,000 expected to support Dare to Care as new USDA figures show hunger continues at record-setting level
The 35th annual Hunger Walk, Louisville’s longest-running public issue walk, is scheduled for this Sunday, September 9, at Louisville’s Waterfront Park. Dare to Care Food Bank and Interfaith Paths to Peace organize the event to benefit Dare to Care’s local efforts to fight hunger. Part of the proceeds also benefit the World Food Program.
The Hunger Walk will begin at 2:15 pm and follow a flat, out-and-back 5K (3.1 miles) route for walkers and runners. Live music and spirit teams will line the route. Online registration remains open until 5 pm on September 7. People can register at the event from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Adults can register for $25 and youth 18 and under can register for $15.
The Hunger Walk Festival will be held from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm that day at Festival Plaza. The Festival will include entertainment, a Kids Zone by Kazoing with inflatables, the Bubble Bus, and more, free food and refreshments. Food trucks Grind, Holy Mole, and L’il Cheezers will also be on the venue.
This year’s Hunger Walk comes on the heels of a USDA report showing that hunger continues at a modern record rate both nationally and locally. In Kentucky, one in six people, including nearly one in four children, are at risk of not having the food they need for a healthy life. For every dollar donated to The Hunger Walk, Dare to Care can provide four meals to these struggling families. In the past year, Dare to Care distributed over 13 million meals throughout Kentuckiana.
Aramark returns for the third straight year as the Hunger Walk’s presenting sponsor. Major sponsors include Kroger, Yum! Brands, Fifth Third Bank, and Ford Motor Company.
Here is a map of the event’s route.
