I like BoomBozz a lot, but ... but who and when was the first pizza in Louisville?

Certainly we've had pizza here since the '60s - or earlier, I guess. We got pizzas from Calandrino's on Bardstown in the early '60s or even before, and I'm pretty sure it was the first. Highland Italian, which was succeeded by Lentini's, also goes back to that same general era.

Of course, they're gone. Hmm ... trying to think here, are there any surviving pizzerias that go back farther than the middle '90s? When did Rocky's open near Jeffboat? I'm pretty sure that was in the '80s. Impellizzeri's is older, but it closed for a long spell. Wick's?

Rocky's across from Jeffboat was definitely there in the early half of the eighties.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn it was there in the '70s.

I believe Rocky's Sub Pub in Jeff opened August 1977 around the same time as Bearno's.
Ray Parrella's predated Rocky's I think but I don't know by how many years. Seems like Fondrisi worked with Parrella prior to Rocky's, unless I have my half-remembered local history confused.

Congrats Tony!

Benny Impellizzeri learned pizza when he worked at Fun City pizza in the 60's. Bob Averilo owned it. He was from NJ.

I feel like I just had a Gen-Y moment trying to wrap my head around the concept that there was a time in living memory when there was no pizza. It's kind of embarassing.

Village Inn? I know it was there in the early 70's. I don't remember the pizza but I do remember the banjo guy...
