Primo Oils and Vinegars

by Paul S » Sat Aug 04, 2012 1:38 pm

I just found out about this place. Controversy over what is labeled "extra virgin" olive oil has been in the news a lot in recent years so it's a pretty cool business concept. Basically, they get unique olive oils from all over the world to sell locally. They'll schedule tastings and hold events at their store on Brownsboro. They are also at the Douglass Loop farmers' market on Saturdays.

Check it out.

Don't forget about Zi Olive in Westport Village.

The first time a ran across a specialty store like these was on the square in Santa Fe. I'm glad we have them here now!

Both those places have very good reputations ... it's a fun concept.

Out of long-time loyalty, I'd also point out that Lotsa Pasta has a substantial collection of olive oils (and other oils) from Italy and around the world.

As does Burger's Market.

Thanks for the added info. It seems there are at least two places in town that are dedicated solely to oil & vinegar. Good news for me; though, I have to admit that I would not have thought that it could be a sustainable stand-alone business.

If you like green olive oils particularly those used for finishing, Olive Bella from Lexington comes to the Beargrass Market on Saturday. They bottle extra virgin oils and vinegars, with a certain acidity, from small farmers in particular regions of Italy. Burgers and Losta Pasta usually carries Olive Bella oils. Pretty tasty stuff. I could make a meal on some Blue Dog bread, Bella's Olio Biologico and a little salt and pepper :D http://www.olivebella. They're a local company.

The folks that own Primos are good folks and I can recommend the place. It's a good concept and they go out of their way to make sure not only do you get what you want, but a little new knowledge along the way.
