Iroquois Park Area

by Tom K » Sun Jul 29, 2012 9:52 am

Hello fellow foodies. We will be attending the Rufus Wainwright concert next Sunday evening at Iroquois Park and are hoping you can recommend someplace for casual dining in that area. Thanks.

Everyone is going to tell you this but the Vietnam Kitchen is right down the road. Had the VF9 on Thursday and it wasn't nearly spicy enough but it was good. There will be other suggestions but this is the place I'd go even if I had no reason to be in that part of town.

I may be in the minority here, but I strongly prefer Annie Cafe to Vietnam Kitchen.

I like Annie Cafe a lot, and VK too ... it's really hard to go wrong with South End Vietnamese; there are a couple of other smaller, more out-of-the-way spots that are worthy too, but it's hard to go wrong with either of these.

We are in the South End almost every Monday evening. There is a dearth of local places in that area. Both VK and Annies are well above average, altho Annies is NOT open on Monday. :) Some other places:

Pho Binh Minh
6709 Strawberry Lane
Louisville, KY 40214
(502) 375-9249

Rubbies BarBQue
6905 Southside Drive
Louisville, KY 40214
502-367-0007

Jimbo's Bar-B-Que
801 West Kenwood Drive
Louisville, KY 40214
502-375-1888

There are both an El Napol and an El Tasrasco on New Cut a stones throw from the park.

Search Google for, restaurants, new cut rd, louisville ky and you will get a nice list.
Then Click:
Map for restaurants, new cut rd, louisville ky at top of the little map

If you like Italian food then I would recommend you take a bit of extra time and have pre-concert meal at Tuscany on the Outer Look.

Depending on weather, take a picnic and a blanket. Or take a pizza and some non-alcoholic drinks. Unfortunately because some people are stupid we can't take a nice picnic basket to a LM Park and have a bottle of wine with our cheese, apples, bread, butter and trail bologna.

I can't wait for Menu & Hours to come out.

Go to ValuMarket on 3rd, buy a Cuban Sandwich and some Limeade and assorted plantain chips...

I was gonna say, I don't know if you're allowed to bring in outside food to the ampitheater, but I'd probably just go find some treats at the ValuMarket near there and have a picnic. That location has some unusual and unusually good finds, a far better selection of foods from around the world than any other supermarket in town.

Thanks everyone. Great suggestions. We've done the picnic thing several times there, and with the right weather it's wonderful. I think we'll take your suggestions and hit the Vitnamese restaurant since that's one of our favorite cuisines. You've been most helpful.
