With my new found freedom on Friday night I took my bride to La Coop. We did not have reservations but thought we had a good chance of getting a seat as the Olympics were on and buckets of rain were pouring down. When we arrived it was looking like we were in for a 45 min wait. We opted for two bar seats. I love how they transformed the space from the almost too cold feel of 732. It was very warm and inviting inside. The bride had a Tito's and soda and I had an Old Forester. Both were only $6 a piece. Many other downtown restaurants need to take a que from this very fair pricing.
We ordered the mussels ($13) and the coq au vin ($14). Wow! The chicken was all dark meat which is a huge plus and the sauce was outstanding. The mussels were excellent with a great broth. The frites were out of this world. Absolutely the best fry I have ever had. We met Chef Bobby Benjamin as I was admiring his pile of heirloom tomatoes near the kitchen.
Great place and a great price.
We followed up with a drink at Proof. On the way home we had to stop at our guilty pleasure and ordered a few sliders for the trip back to Westport. Great to be out on Friday night.
