Power outtage on Bardstown Rd

by Jackie R. » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:35 pm

Anyone have any wild power outage experiences in Highlands restaurants tonight they wanna share? I lost power in my highlands home at 7:23, and found out pretty quickly that it was widespread. It looks like it's still out at least between the Mid City Mall and Speed Ave (now at 10:35pm).

Hi Jackie,
Power was out 8:30-10:00 for me, near Speed/Norris. Nothing too horrible, used a laptop to watch a B-movie with the boys...I just don't want another 3-4 day outage like last time....

A couple hours, no problem at home. But I know at a restaurant it isn't so easy.

Can't speak to last night, but we were at Roots/Heart & Soy when their opening night got taken down by that bad storm that hit the Highlands last summer. They did an amazing job of coping, but from all I heard it couldn't have been easy. Especially in a small kitchen with no windows. <gulp>

Hey Nimbus,
You were in a good grid last night for the highlands. I know that Norris and Deerpark only suffered a couple of 20-30 minutes outages, similar to what the Baxter Ave Irish corridor felt, but others along Bardstown Rd (including my grid) lost power at 7:23 (on a FRIDAY NIGHT) and closed up shop at 11ish with the lights out, (and based on my clocks, power wasn't restored at my house until well after midnight). Man, I've been in that situation in a restaurant as an employee, and it's a nutty adventure. I've never experienced it as a patron, though.

Years ago I was "Junior KM" at the Bristol. Heard a weather alert on the radio that a funnel cloud had been spotted and was heading towards the Highlands. I went out front to inform the FOH mgr, at which time the lights flickered and went out. About that time, a server who was about 8 months and too many days pregnant popped up and said she thought she might be having labor pains. No tornado baby that night, but it had the potential to be a night to remember. Also, I shut off all gas appliances and took my kitchen crew to the cellar until the all clear. Took some heat for that, but I'll be darned if I'll die so some yuppie could have Green Chile Won-tons.

I'm a half fritter/half wonton basket (aka, frit/won bask) girl, here, and I'd have been destroyed to not get my goods that night, BUT safety first :-).

My experience of it (the power outage), though not "culinary-related" was that a bunch of us go down to Molly's most Sunday mornings to watch Irish sports matches live. We arrived this past Sunday at 8:45am, only to find poor Irish Sean waiting to tell us that; (a.) the power had been down since the storm (the previous Friday nite) and, (b.) LG&E was being *NO* help at all, getting it sorted (remember, this was Sunday morning now), and (c.) we could trek over to Molly's/St.M for the matches - which we did.
Sean said that, though the rest of Baxter had been up and running, Molly's was told that they allegedly were on a separate grid and they got caught in the old "LG&E says they can't do anything till the private electricians do some stuff" versus "the private electricians say they can't do anything until LG&E does some stuff"...
hmmm.....
anyway, no telling how much revenue Molly's lost, losing a Friday *AND* a Sat. nights, but they were back up by Sunday afternoon and we did our best to replenish those lost revenues!!
